Are there any details available on the macOS enhancements mentioned in the 6.8.0 release notes?

For example:

Time Machine is not supported over SMB yet, and SMB signing is only configurable using the SMB Plus app.

The enhancements are (1) adding the Apple extensions available from Samba vfs_fruit module, which most importantly speeds up directory listings and add additional character support for filenames, and (2) enabling Spotlight support if search is enabled on shares.

Thanks for the info. Time Machine over SMB is high on my personal list. It's the only reason I've got AFP turned on these days.

@StephenB, yes, we can a minimum protocol option to SMB Plus.

Good news, because If I remember correctly, Apple is killing AFP soon and we'll need a really good SMB support. I still have weird bugs in SMB sometimes with my Mac, like permissions going crazy (and I need to reboot the mac to get them right but it only happens with my ReadyNAS and it's very hard to reproduce to pinpoint the bug. 😕 )
