Readynas nv+ hangs

My ReadyNAS NV+ have suddenly started to hang/freeze.

When I power on the unit works for a while but suddenly it hangs. The power button is blue and all disk LEDs are green but when i press the power button nothing happens.

The unit doesn't answers to ping anymore.

I have to remove the power plug to be able to start the unit again. But this only works for a short while than it hangs again.

I have checked the four disks using WD LifeGuard Diagnostics without finding anything wrong with them.

I have the latest firmware (4.1.14)

4 x 2TB Western Digital disks

Is there any way to find out if there is any problem with the ReadyNAS unit itself?

It sounds like a filling OS partition.  If you still have SMB access, make a backup.

    Do you have ssh enabled?

Also do you have ReadyDLNA running?

      Hello Stephen.

If the problem is a filling OS partition, what should I do to correct it?

I don't know if ssh is enabled. When I try to access the nas with ssh I get the response

"ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.100 port 22: Connection refused" and I do not know where port

22 has to be activated (My Mac, wireless router, Nas unit). I am not that experienced on network/operating system.

Maybe it is my router who denies access on port 22?

I guess ssh is for log in on the Nas unit and do something.

Yes ReadyDLNA and ITunes streaming server is active.

The most important data is already copied to a external disk.

    Hi hby,

    Welcome to the community!

In addition to Stephen's questions, does the RAIDar see the NAS?

Since you have checked the disks with diagnostic tools, please make sure you insert them back to thier respective bays.

If RAIDar does not see the NAS, check the cable between the NAS and the switch/router where it is connected, make sure both ends are properly plugged in.

    Regards,

      Hello.

      Yes RAIDar see the Nas.

      It is like this.

All is working normal for a while (a couple of hours) and then it hangs again.

Then you have to switch off power on the back and on again.

When you switch on the nas unit it detects the powerbreak and starts to syncronize the disks, that goes well.

It also asks that you should check filesystem by rebboting it, that goes well too.

So after that two actions I open the logs in the Nas to see if anything is wrong but everything is reported okey.

Then suddenly  after some hours it has stopped working and is hanged.

      Regards

      Håkan B

You could lose all access to the NAS soon, so if you have no backups you really should be making them.

It sounds likely to be a filling OS partition to me.  If I am right, you would need to enable ssh on the NAS (and feel comfortable using it) to resolve the problem yourself. Another option is to do a factory reset, and rebuild the NAS/restore the data from backup.

It would be easy for Netgear to solve, so if you are the original purchase you could try contact supporting (and pay a per-incident support fee).
