Thanks for the dev links in the first post, they all install fluently on a 4.1.4 firmware ReadyNAS Duo now.

Re: Getting started How-To

I'm trying to install a dev environment on my PRO Pioneer, but seem to be running into a problem with this package:

readynaspro:/usr/lib# apt-get install uuid-dev
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
uuid-dev: Depends: libuuid1 (= 1.39+1.40-WIP-2006.11.14+dfsg-2etch1) but 1.41.3-1.netgear1 is to be installed

Re: Getting started How-To

Thanks for the reminder. Add this line to your /etc/apt/sources.list file:
deb http://www.readynas.com/packages readynas-x86/

That line will be in there in the next release also.

Re: Getting started How-To

I'm trying to create an envinment for cross compiling some software to the ReadyNAS Duo but I'm failling.

I've downloaded the cross compiler kit and the glibc from netgear but I cant put it to work.

I'm trying to build rdiffweb and rdiff-backup. Did anybody have compiled those applications before or any other python package and want to share with me? I really dont want to install all building environment in my NAS.

Thanks in advance,
Gabriel.

How about this:
apt-get install rdiff-backup

Re: Getting started How-To

Ok, you're right but the version available is 0.13.4-5 and the actual stable version of rdiff-backup is 1.2.8, so there is a lot of bug corrections done.

Re: Getting started How-To

hi,

any jedi's advice how to make "server" side (on NAS) incremental backups (let's say per day)? This rdiff-backup would be nice. Can any of you build a deb for the public?

many thanks

Re: Getting started How-To

Hi,

I compiled rdiff-backup for my ReadyNAS. Trying to do things the Debian way will just lead to frustration. What worked was:

- install python-dev, librsync-dev, etc. from the NAS repos
- get the most recent rdiff-backup source. I did this by (on my laptop, running unstable) apt-get source rdiff-backup, and then copying the directory over to the NAS
- dpkg-dev is uninstallable, so dpkg-buildpackage won't work (but it probably wouldn't anyhow, due to dependency issues) 😞 Instead: python setup.py build; python setup.py install

Now I am messing about with the users and groups so that the permissions on NFS and over SSH are both sensible, but you can ignore that if you're only going to use one or the other.

Re: Getting started How-To

I am venturing into the development environment for the NV+. I've installed both the APT and EnableSSH addons and have been succesful in logging in and perusing the environment.

However when I execute "apt-get update" from the root, I get many errors such those listed below
:

Is this normal?, or do I need to update the "../apt/sources.list"?

Re: Getting started How-To

Hi there,

I just purchased a pro, updated it to the latest (4.2.9), and I'm trying to install the apt-get addon listed on the start of this thread.

Unfortunately it's saying that it's an invalid image.

Can someone provide me with an alternate link?

Thanks

Re: Getting started How-To

I may be wrong but i think all you need is the EnableSSH Add-on From http://www.readynas.com/download/addons/x86/4.2/EnableRootSSH_1.0-x86.bin

Then as found from http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=38990&hilit=EnableRootSSH and Quoting super-poussin

first downlaod it again
2d reboot the unit
3d try another browser like FF instead of chrome, or IE8 or safari

Then once SSH is enabled just run
apt-get update
from your pro

Hope That Helps
