I have a new ReadyNAS 314 running OS 6.2. I installed the proferred LMS NT App and am currently running it with a software SqueezePlay player, as my hardware players are elsewhere at present.
It works fine for my MP3 encoded files, EXCEPT that this combination will not play any AAC M4A files - I get a 'Can't Open File' error message.
Not quite sure why this is.
Is it:
- an LMS NT deficiency
- an absence of LAME (how would I isntal that on the ReadyNAS anyawy?)
- a SqueezePlay deficiency?
Any ideas or assistance would be gratefully received.

That bloody well worked!
I can't thank you enough. My listening life is transformed.
Shouldn't this be built into the general relased code?

Re: LMS NT & M4A Files
Are these really AAC, or are they apple lossless?
If you change the extension to mp4, does that help?

Thay are actuallty Apple Lossless M4A files.
I tried changing the file extention to MP4, but that did not help.

So that must be the issue. Do you have a FLAC file you can try as a test?
I don't use LMS or squeezebox, but I have heard that some devices don't have native ALAC support (but do have FLAC).

When you say "that must be the issue" - does that mean, LMS NT, SqueezePlay or the absence of LAME?

The issue being the system doesn't support ALAC - not sure which component(s). Initially you said AAC m4a, which would have pointed me towards a file extension problem or perhaps file permissions (since AAC is the standard audio compression in mp4).

Support for AAC files (mov, m4a, m4b, mp4) is not enabled by default (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/AAC#AAC_on_Linux). I'll see about re-packaging to add this.

Re: LMS NT & M4A Files
Just a thought; if I enable the ReadyNAS iTunes Server, will that not then play ALAC/M4A files?

Re: LMS NT & M4A Files
It might - I'm not sure. You won't be able to use squeezeplay to play them.

Yep, the iTunes server should play those files, but only to iTunes.

Sorry, I got a little busy last weekend and this week. Can you try out this package and let me know how it works?

Re: LMS NT & M4A Files
Hi there. I am finally back in the US, and ready to give this a try. For the avoidance of doubt, and so I do not screw up my system: how do I know which version of these to use, and (more importantly) what do I do with it?!

armel for ReadyNAS 102/104/202/204/212/214/2120. amd64 for everything else. The web interface will tell you if you use the wrong one.
Use the Upload button in the Apps tab to get it on your system.

Re: LMS NT & M4A Files
Awesome, I'll get it posted up to GitHub and released to the app site.

I'm sure there's some reason Logitech didn't include this stuff to begin with.Shouldn't this be built into the general relased code?
