Cannot logon to my NV+ using readyNAS REMOTE??

Hi there,

Bare with me, hoping this is an easy fix but my computer skills are pretty basic.

I have a readyNAS NV+ and it has been working faultlessly at home for the past 6 months (2 windows laptops accessing wirelessly and 1 media player via a cat6 cable). My router is a netgear N600 ADSL2+/Gigabit/Dual band unit. Everything seems to talk to each other fine.

My problem is that I would like to use readyNAS REMOTE in place of my dropbox account which is almost full. Since i have the NV+ already up and running, I would rather use that then pay for a larger drop box account. But I can’t seem to get it to work?

Im unsure if i have configured things correctly or not? I have had a search through the forum and have not found an answer to my problem:

1) on my iphone i have downloaded the readyNAS remote app. I can only seem to get it to access files when i have FTP option activated on the NAS (and set to anonymous). My concern using this option is that the data on my nas would be easy for others to access? Is this perfectly safe or should i do this a different way (my unstanding is that FTP is not that secure)

2) on my work computer (MS windows 7 enterprise, service pack 1, x-64) i can install readyNAS REMOTE but my logon does not work (i have not enabled the readyDROP option), it comes up with incorrect ID or password. I have verified that the logon id and password are correct through the readynas remote website.

If anyone could offer any advice on the above issues it would be most appreciated.

Thanks for the reply mate - seems having FTP enabled is the only way to get access on the iphone? i have got that sorted for the time being - thanks!



But with regards to readynas remote access on the work machine, i still havent been able to get it up and running (case id#20347033)

To update on progress:
* with my nv+ on my home network i can access my nv+ through readynas remote on a friends home network - everything works fine.
* with my nv+ on my friends network i can access my nv+ from my laptop at home using readynas remote - everything works fine.
* however if i try to access my nv+ using readynas remote on my work computer it still does not work

I have tried:
* auto proxy detection
* manual proxy settings (i have the address and port number from our it department - i lave the socks4/5 blank?)
* enabled port forwarding on my NV+, configured correctly with my router on the home network and entered into the readynas remote connection settings on the work computer

And unfortunately it still doesnt work. Is there anything else that i can try?

Does remote connect at all from your work machine?
Have you tried to restart P2P on the add-on?
is it only from your work machine that you cant access Remote?

Hi there,

No - it appears that remote does not connect on my work machine. It comes up with "incorrect ID or password". I know for a fact that this id and password are correct as they work on other machines and on my iphone. I dont know how remote software works but it seems that something on this computer/network is not allowing it to authenticate my logon details? It doesnt seem to get passed the verifing server connection (when hovering the mouse over the remote icon on the task bar).

I will try restarting P2P in the advanced remote settings on the NV+ tonight and see if that help?

In all instances, does the remote software try to authenticate a logon through a readynas remote main server? And then once logged one, does it access the NAS through the readynas remote main server?

Or does the software authenticate a logon with the NAS directly? And then access the NAS directly?

So i wonder if that means my problem is that this computer cannot connect to the remote server at NETGEAR?

What would you recommend that i try?

it could be that its not allowing the P2P connection from your work machine have you downloaded the P2P logs
could be an issue with certain restrictions on your network at work
once you restart P2P it will update it, i would start with checking for restrictions at your work and restarting P2P

have restarted P2P and unfortunately it still doesnt work.

im still waiting to hear back from our IT guys on p2p restrictions - will keep you posted!
