I am curious how many users here have tried owncloud for readynas and why their experience has been.
I have a Duo v1. with the rsnapshot and twonky add ons. I would like to use owncloud to replace how my family accesses shared files. Instead of using cifs and AFP et al, I would like to make extensive use of syncing for documents, photos maybe some other file types.
How reliable has owncloud 4.0x (4.07 for duo v1) for readynas been for people with respect to syncing files between the nas and windows and macs?
I read in an own cloud forum their maybe some bugs in 4.0 related to file syncing.

Well, my major intend was not file sharing but the ability to have shared access to calendar and address book (using caldav respectively carddav). I'm using ReadyNAS Duo (v1, Sparc) and the ownCloud Addon - it works very well with iPad2 and iPhone 3GS (caldav, carddav). For my Android devices (Galaxy Gio, Galaxy Tab 7) I'm still looking for a good app.
OwnCloud requires PHP >= 5.3 (http://owncloud.org/support/requirements/) so no super-poussin's PHP add-on won't work as it's too old. To update to the newer PHP I believe you simply install the ReadyNASXtras PHP add-on twice (without removing it, install it over the top of itself).
Well, I think you first have to remove the old PHP add-on (super-poussin) before you can install the new one (of WhoCares?). That's at least what I've done - and now phpBB and ownCloud both are working well (on my ReadyNAS Duo v1).
Here's the cookbook I've obtained from WhoCares? and which I've successfully used. (Notice: neither me nor Stefan can guarantee success - so: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK)
1. Install ssh add-on (if not done, already) 2. De-install the old PHP add-on (it might fail - at least this was the case when I've done so using Frontview) 3. Use ssh to logon to your ReadyNas and perform the following steps:
Check whether there are still some PHP parts on the NAS:
dpkg -l | grep php
All packages reported as found need to be removed using
dpkg --purge <name of the package>
(you might have to vary the sequence, due to dependencies).
Then check on your Apache configuration:
apache-ssl -f /etc/frontview/apache/httpd.conf -t
If some file <something>.conf cannot be found (and if this is referring to PHP) then simply delete that file and repeat the check. You should then obtain a "Syntax OK" (last section in the multi-line output).
If this is the case, start Apache and Frontview again, with:
After Frontview is working again, install the new PHP add-on twice (no restart required in-between). This is required to replace all libraries which have been touched by the previous PHP add-on installation.
Finally check the successful execution with:
dpkg -l | grep -v "^ii"
There should be only two modules (mailx, make) listed. It's important that no PHP module occurs in that list.
How do I specify where to store the user data files? Right now it looks like it is using any available space on the ReadyNAS Pro. How do I create users? When I am logged into the admin/users panel I specify user names and passwords but nothing happens when I click "create." It looks like it is a 4.04 issue so...how do I update? Do I have to wait until ReadyNASXtras updates the installer?
I just noticed that own-cloud 4.5 is out. I have a Readynas duo v1 and I am interested in the own-cloud add-on. I hesitated putting 4.07 for Sparc on due to some file syncing issues that were reported with owncloud 4.0X on the own cloud website. I am hoping they are resolved with 4.5. Was anyone planning on porting own-cloud 4.5 to the duo v1?
I'm considering installing the OwnCloud add-on on my Duo v1, and was wondering if the ability to connect securely is included in this add-on or if it has to be configured separately? Thanks!
I just bought/installed the Readynas sparc addon with ownCloud 4.07. GUI looks fine, if slightly sluggish on the underpowered sparc but no surprise there. Uploaded some files, all ok. I downloaded the sync client (Win7 x64).
After some minutes ( and a successfule sync) I got this message
"ownCloud Server Mismatch: The configured server for this client is too old."
Then the sync client exits. Had a few less graceful exits too from the sync client.
I can't see any older sync clients on the owncloud website. If you are thinking of trying this, and you want to sync with a local folder, I recommend you wait to see if a v4.5.1 or later addon appears.

I noticed on the own cloud site, that there are sync clients for both the newer and older versions. The site claims sync client 1.05 should be used for older versions like 4.0x. Here is the link I found: http://owncloud.org/sync-clients/ . Was the 1.05 client the one you were using?

You're right. In a rush, I only saw what was available on http://owncloud.com/download and ran with that. I'll give the 1.05 sync client a go.
I read in the owncloud forums, that the machines running the owncloud clients and server for the 4.0x version needs to be time synchronized within 7 seconds of each other.
Apparently , 4.0x uses solely the time stamps to determine which version of a document is newer between machines.
Although I have not yet installed 4.07 (I plan to shortly), I am setting up my windows and Mac machines to synchronize there time date once a day an when they boot up as preparation.
Just installed the WhoCares package for OwnCloud and the client refuses to sync since the server version is to old. I see that BadBrad recommends using a older client. I really would like to upgrade server instead of downgrade client since they fixed major security vulnerabilities.
Hey! I'm searching for the same issue! Is there an update comming soon? Does anybodey know, where the files are stored? Is there something like a Dropbox-share I can connect to via Windows/Mac Explorer?
Well, I've followed the instructions on slobberbone's website - and successfully updated my OwnCloud installation. Since my previous installation did not contain a "data" subdirectory, I did not create the symbolic link; this was the only deviation from slobberbone's instructions. Ah, and yes - I did specify a different hostname since owncloud-latest.tar.bz2 is not really the latest version (I did use owncloud-4.5.5.tar.bz2 instead).
Maybe slobberbone could provide some insights (in English, please - on the website there are some French explainations but I'm unable to translate them) on the necessity to create the symlink.
Hello, I've updated my website to make the english version 😉 Effectively, the link with "latest" of the latest owncloud version, doesn't work, we have to specify the link of the version how we want ... all it says on my website ... i hope 😉
I've attempted this but each time I get to the point of executing the tarball I receive an error that there is no such file (I do replace the generic "latest version" with the correct name). At first I thought this was because the instructions are not specific to a Duo v1, but WSJ has had success with the same model. I'm obviously missing something but am not familiar enough with the unit (or Linux) to know what it is. I'm taking for granted that the download is saving to the folder I'm in at the time I do it (tmp) and the fact that there's no path stated in the instruction tends to back that up. Am I wrong on this? What can I do to get past this roadblock?
