ReadyNAS NV+ V2 and Media Entertainer Express EVA9150

So I got a new ReadyNAS NV+ V2 for two reasons: 1-I wanted to continue using Logitech Squeezebox to stream music and 2-To continue to stream videos to my Netgear Media Entertainer Express EVA9150. No problems on the music front but streaming from a Netgear NAS to a Netgear media center is causing problems, whoda thunk it? 🙂

The problem is this: When I add video files to my NAS share and do a "Quick Scan for New Media" on the EVA, it doesn't see the new files that are placed in subfolders of the "Video" share on the NAS. (It worked fine when streaming files from my older HP WHS Server). The only way the EVA sees the new files is to do a complete rescan on the EVA which takes 10 minutes. I researched it a bit and apparently the problem lies with the EVA checking the NAS folder's "last accessed" date rather than "last modified" date. Please see link here:

Apparently there's a workaround of sorts (I think) for the NV+ V1 but not for the V2:

So does anyone know how to solve this problem (ie, enable performing a Quick Scan on the EVA and pick up any new files on the NAS)? It's really not OK when two products from the same company don't talk to each other - I was hoping someone would know of a quick fix - or be able to spew out a quick app to take care of the problem!

Many thanks! --Ken

You can enable "live folder browsing" on the EVA9150. (I think its in the advanced->other settings menu).

Also, if you select a subfolder from the EVA and press 'eject" on the remote, the EVA will do a quick scan of that folder. Not a good workaround of course, but sometimes it comes in handy.

Re: ReadyNAS NV+ V2 and Media Entertainer Express EVA9150

Hi StephenB - Thanks for responding. I already tried using eject and it doesn't work. The EVA doesn't "see" the Ready NAS NV + V2 folder when you add files to it and do a rescan. The only thing that works is if I rename the folder. But that's not really an option because that would mean I'd have to rename a folder every time I added one or more files to it. Plus, doing a rescan, either via the Quick Rescan option or using the Eject button will also display the previous name of the folder (yet another quirk of the EVA). Selecting "live folder browsing" doesn't make a difference. The problem, according to the links in my previous post, is with the way the NAS applies dates to folders and files.

Interesting.

Live folder browsing works nicely with the V1 and x86 products - I have never used or needed the add on.

I'm happy that you don't have that problem but it's a problem that obviously exists! Hence my original posting to this forum for a possible solution (or add-on).

Just meant that it is odd that the V2 is behaving differently in this respect. Live folder browsing doesn't need media scanning and doesn't depend on detection of file dates.

So I am wondering if your problem has a different cause.

Re: ReadyNAS NV+ V2 and Media Entertainer Express EVA9150

The links I provide in my original post both refer to the NV+ (V1). So the problem exists for both V1 and V2, not just for the V2 as you state - however there is a solution (provided in the 2nd link) for the V1. I was only asking if anyone knew of a solution for V2.

Yes, but live folder browsing avoids the problem in the V1, but apparently not for the V2.

I agree that you need a fix, but am thinking it is likely not the same problem.
