Readynas Ultra 4 - TLS issue

Hi all,

I'm currently using an old web browser to bypass the TLS issue, and be able to access the Admin page.

I was looking at another thread, where they were talking about a Fix by using this addon : https://github.com/rdynsxtrs/rn4bin/blob/main/apache2/x86/Apache2_2.2.34-x86-0.2.0.bin

However it seems a bit obsolete, and it's not working with the latest firmware (RAIDiator 4.2.31).

I'm unable to SSH or "map the network drive". I can only transfer the files via FTP.

Any suggestions / fix for this TLS issue will be appreciate ! 🙂

Thanks in advance for your help

note : I reviewed few thread, but I couldn't find any solutions.

Re: Readynas Ultra 4 - TLS issue

As @Sandshark says, the add-on only solves the SSL protocol version/Cipher mismatch issue in the browser. Even with that add-on you need to click through security warnings with https, because the NAS uses a self-signed certificate. The change to virtual.conf lets you use http instead (which will eliminate the need to click through those warnings).

Enabling SMB 1/CIFS in "Turn Windows Features On or Off" will let you access the NAS shares with file explorer.  If you use MacOS, you'll need to shift to either AFP or NFS.

A better path is to convert your Ultra to run OS-6 firmware.  We can give more info on that if you are interested.

Re: Readynas Ultra 4 - TLS issue

I was able to SSL using Putty (not with the Terminal), and I updated the Virtual.conf

Also with that lack of support, it's probably the last product from netgear I'm gonna get.

Re: Readynas Ultra 4 - TLS issue

That's the correct add-on for the TLS issue, though that's not your problem.  TLS is for https access (the GUI), not SMB (mapping drives and such in Windows).  Since the firmware you're using is many years old, I'm not sure why you are worried about the age of the add-on.  If you think it didn't work, it's because you are expecting it to do something it's not intended to do.  If you can now access the NAS with a newer browser, then it worked.  If that's not it, then in what way is it "not working"?

Your problem with mapping drives is likely the Windows has depreciated SMB V1.1, which is all your NAS supports.  You have to enable it in Windows.

While it's still based on an obsolete version of Debian Linux, many with units like yours updated to OS6 years ago, which does not have the TLS or SMB issues of RAIDiator 4.x.

Re: Readynas Ultra 4 - TLS issue

When installing the addon, I received an "unexpected error", and the installation failed.

I updated the Virtual.conf file to comment the "RewriteRule". After rebooting the NAS, I got a "Apache update successful" (so it seems I was able to install the addon despite the error).

I'm now able to login on the admin page with my current Web browser. I had a look at the Microsoft documentation, and enabled SMBv1.

So all good now, thanks!

Yes, that error occurs sometimes, even though the installation was actually successful.  Glad all is now working for you.
