R6230 connection but no internet

I’ve used this router for over a year with no problems. The 2.4 vanished but 5G was still good. I reset the router. All networks showed back up but now they all connect but no internet. I don’t see a modem so I’m assuming the router is both. The router was installed by the internet provider. I did add an extender about 9 months ago. Any suggestions?

Re: R6230 connection but no internet

Tech is here and apparently when I reset the router the Wi-Fi needed to be “released”. He said you have to login through the Wi-Fi but that was definitely above my understanding, surprise. Thank you for your help and patience with my lack of hardware and network knowledge

Suggestions? find out what its connected to that supplying internet to it.

That'll help us to help you as the R6230 doesn't have its own modem.

I’m not sure what you mean. I’m not well versed on this subject. I can get the properties of the connection from Wi-Fi settings on my laptop

Re: R6230 connection but no internet

The original home owner had a crazy setup tying alarm, internet and phone through a panel. I’ll attach a picture

Or maybe not. I can’t post the picture format from my phone. Internet comes into the router from a junction box. 2 more blue phone cables into LAN 2 and 3. An Ethernet cable in LAN 4

Ok. The Ethernet connects to a box outside on the side of the house

Re: R6230 connection but no internet

Ok. Our previous provider was AT&T and the internet is connected to a box on a wall in the garage which has a cable going through a wall to a box on the side and f the house

Two boxes there. Any labels on them, especially the one in the house, that tells you the make and model?

There's lost of boxes out there, but usually only three types of Internet connection: DSL, cable and fibre. They all have different boxes.

How fast is the Internet you pay for? That's another clue. <70 Mbps is likely to be DSL, cable could be 100 - 400 Mbps, while anything near 1000 Mbps is going to be fibre with an Optical Network Terminator (ONT).

It’s an att fiber wireless router

Again, that does not tell us what make and model it is, which means that we don't know what functions it provides.

But if it is a "wireless router" you should not really need the R6230, which is another wireless router. It can actually cause problems because you are putting one router after another router.

Two routers on your network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local address problems. Among other things, the other router can misdirect addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.

This explains some of the other drawbacks.

It may be possible to put the AT&T modem/router into modem only (bridge) mode and then to use the second device as the router. Sometimes it is easier to put the second router into AP mode. But that has its own drawbacks:

Disabled Features on the Router when set to AP Mode | Answer | NETGEAR Support

First, though, do you really need the R6230? What will it do that the "att fiber wireless router" can't handle?

Re: R6230 connection but no internet

I switched from att to entouch because it’s free through our HOA but att had a router and modem set up in addition to the wall box. Unfortunately the box has no model number I can see. It’s mounted to the wall. I searched and found a picture similar to my device. I will keep looking. I appreciate your help

Re: R6230 connection but no internet

It is the ONT box which is connected to the fiber Jack on the exterior side of the house
