Suggestions? find out what its connected to that supplying internet to it.
That'll help us to help you as the R6230 doesn't have its own modem.

Ok. Our previous provider was AT&T and the internet is connected to a box on a wall in the garage which has a cable going through a wall to a box on the side and f the house
Two boxes there. Any labels on them, especially the one in the house, that tells you the make and model?
There's lost of boxes out there, but usually only three types of Internet connection: DSL, cable and fibre. They all have different boxes.
How fast is the Internet you pay for? That's another clue. <70 Mbps is likely to be DSL, cable could be 100 - 400 Mbps, while anything near 1000 Mbps is going to be fibre with an Optical Network Terminator (ONT).

It’s an att fiber wireless router
Again, that does not tell us what make and model it is, which means that we don't know what functions it provides.
But if it is a "wireless router" you should not really need the R6230, which is another wireless router. It can actually cause problems because you are putting one router after another router.
Two routers on your network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local address problems. Among other things, the other router can misdirect addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.
This explains some of the other drawbacks.

It may be possible to put the AT&T modem/router into modem only (bridge) mode and then to use the second device as the router. Sometimes it is easier to put the second router into AP mode. But that has its own drawbacks:

First, though, do you really need the R6230? What will it do that the "att fiber wireless router" can't handle?
