Router is working, and has been working. (Nighthawk, R6400v2, 802.11ac)
Tried to access admin control panel via web browser, failed
Tried alternate browser, failed
Rebooted Router, problem persists (rebooted multiple times)
pinged 192.168.1.1 from CMD and it passed
Both SSIDs are working
wired is working
Everything working as expected but cannot access that administration controls via web browser.
Last time I accessed was within the past month or two and upgraded via the interface to latest firmware via the interface(can't verify which version for obvious reasons).
Please advise, this is annoying.

So, here is the solution:
Use paper clip to hold down the reset button for 10 seconds.
Router Restarts
Use wired device to connect to router at 192.168.1.1
Wait
Go through the new setup process as all of your settings gone.
Rebuild your router like you took it out of the box.
Hope it keeps working (not a lot of faith this problem won't happen again)
I already had the menu go into infinite wait screen and trying to reconnect the IP wasn't accessible. Power cycled and was able to get back in.
All I changed was a device name on the wired network (changed Playstation to Playstation 5 in the description, not device name, it did take effect though)
So.... there we go.
Thanks for all the help Netgear (sarcasm)

Re: Router working, can't access admin page
have you tried a couple different browsers? and or a different pc?
What error did you get?
Did you try using its ip address?

Re: Router working, can't access admin page
Yes. Different browsers. Cleared Cashe/cookies, etc etc.
also tried the phone app.
I always try with the IP address and have never ran into this problem that a reboot didn't fix.
So, this one has me stumped.
Normally I'm the guy trouble shooting and repairing everyone else's gear.

Try this:
genie | Product | Support | NETGEAR
Download the genie app for your OS.
If, maybe a big if, it can find the router the firmware version will be visible in the Router Settings tab.
The desktop genie, not to be confused with the genie app for mobile devices, is a hidden tool that is a good way onto various router operations. For example, it has a Network Map that beats the browser interface.

Re: Router working, can't access admin page
Started off with high hopes. The main windows showed all the stats and such, but I got down to actually access the router and...
Yes, I made sure it was my password and not default.
So I can see everything, all the information, but I can't access the router. I also just for fun tried default password incase that was reset. No such luck.
So, we're back to "no idea what to do or how to fix this beyond a complete wipe and re-image. This is frustrating because I don't think I have my config setup backed up and I've got the network segmented into a /26.
Open to any other ideas before I go that route. Haven't done a TFPT in years, but it's like riding a bike. 😉

Re: Router working, can't access admin page
I see no sign of the "reset" word. Tried that?

The good news about TFTP is that it is easier with a device that does not have terminally broken firmware.

Re: Router working, can't access admin page
This is true. I used to do a lot of field service on Fortinet firewall/routers. After working on those home gear is mostly a walk in the park, except when the config interface won't come up.
I really wish i could console in to this netgear to work on it. CLI is generally better for these things or to figure out what isn't running or why.

You can make life easier in future by saving a backup of your current configuration.

Re: Router working, can't access admin page
I very well have one somewhere but for the life of me can't remember where I stashed it, and I don't think I had a backup after I segmented the network. One of the 4am bright ideas.
Ah well.

That was, of course, the suggestion made near the start of this conversation:

Re: Router working, can't access admin page
If you continue reading you'll also note that I wanted to avoid this very thing with any kind of a solution to unstick the web interface that was permafrozen and inaccessible. The idea that rebooting the router didn't make the login interface accessible is absolutely horrible product.
My solution was dripping in sarcasm but you probably missed that as well.
...but hey, thanks for taking the time to point out something completely not needed. Hope it got you an extra netgear contribution point for your profile.

So, just for fun I re-parsed the entire thread.
You are quoting back my own post to me. Since I flagged it as a solution it will be inserted as the second post, and then the post when I wrote it in chronological order. The same post will be shown twice - as designed.
Good job.
