Unable to backup to Time Machine

I'm unable to conduct a backup to Time Machine. I'm on macOS Big Sur 11.7.

These are the error messages I've received:

1. Time Machine:

Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder.

2. Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac:

Feature: Anti-Ransomware

An unauthorized app attempted to access your backups.

App: /System/Library/Core Services/backup.bundle/Contents/Resources backup

We blocked the app to prevent it from altering the content of your backups.

Hopefully someone has experienced this issue and can provide a fix.

Re: Unable to backup to Time Machine

What netgear device do you have?

Kind of key.

Some of the routers used to have time machine support but its been pulled in later firmwares due to a security issue with it.

but tough to know without knowing what device you have and what firmware is on it

Re: Unable to backup to Time Machine

Hello,

Devices:

Modem: CM1000

Router: BR750

Fyi: My backups are to an external HD via firewire port from Mac to HD. I also emailed Bitdefender customer support with screen shots of the error messages and a BD profiler report.

We can ignore the CM1000. That's just a modem.

I can't find "BR750" in the Netgear catalogue.

RBR750?

That's an Orbi device

I see no hint that Orbi has ever supported time machine. Does any Orbi do that?

Maybe time machine support doesn't depend on the router. But you may have to set it up properly.

Did you follow thee suggestion from @FURRYe38 and ask the people at Apple?

How about this?

Search - NETGEAR Communities – Time Machine

If the RBR750 is what you own, try looking in the right place.

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

Orbi - NETGEAR Communities

You might like to search there for messages related to your problem.

In the meantime you could visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.

Check for various troubleshooting tips.

You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.
