Devices drop connection

For several years my business partner has used a Netgear ProSAFE GS108 switch at his desk. He has one network plug but three devices to connect. Yesterday he lost connectivity on all three devices. After testing the plug and each cable I narrowed it down to possibly a bad switch. I tested each device plugged directly into the ethernet port in the wall and they all worked. I proceeded to purchase a new switch similar to the GS108 but with fewer ports. I plug in the GS105NA and connect a printer and his phone and everything worked well, then I plugged his computer in and within a few minutes ran into the same issue. So I disconnected his computer and the other two devices got their connection back. The only change to this setup recently was a new computer about a week ago.

Our network at the office goes from a modem into a LAN which connects to three switches that then go out to all of the ports throughout the office.

    Jcarpenter80,

    Welcome to the community! 🙂

Based from your initial post, whenever you connect a computer to the GS105, the other devices connected to it loses connection.  But, when you disconnect the same computer from the GS105, the other devices gets connectivity again.  It seems that the problem is not the GS105.

Be informed that the GS105 is a pass-through, unmanaged switch.  Its main purpose is to extend the LAN so that you connect more devices like a PC, network printer, etc.

Is your modem a modem-only device or a combination of modem & router?

Is there a router connected to the modem?  If yes, is the GS105 connected directly to a router?

When you connect the computer directly to the GS105, does it obtain a valid IP address?

    Regards,
