Hello people

I've recently ordered myself a RNDU4000, Ultra 4 ReadyNAS, and today I currently have a ReadyNAS Duo.

The questions I have today are as follows:

1. The userdatabase I have on my current ReadyNAS Duo, can I export those and import them directly into the Ultra 4?
2. I'm going to use the Ultra 4 as my Media NAS, and I have to copy alot of files from my Duo to the Ultra 4 (once I get it, and get it up), is there a quick and simple way to easily copy files from my sparc NAS to my x86 NAS, without going through another computer?

1) You could export the user list via Security > User & Group Accounts > Export Users but the passwords wouldn't be transferred.
2) I did a similar migration a few years back when I moved from a NV+ to an Ultra 6. You'd want to make sure you have the same users and groups on both the Duo and the Ultra 4. Then use Frontview backup jobs to transfer the data. I'd recommend using NFS for the full backup then changing to using Rsync for the incrementals.

I'm just moving the data from my mediashare, but NFS backupjob would work fine, so I don't have to go via another computer and use unnecessary CPU or network resources on the transfer.

Is there a recommended number of threads I should be using or would 1 suffice?

Depends how many jobs you run at once. If running one job at once 1 should be enough, I think.

If the NFS backup uses read-ahead, then it will run quicker with more threads.

Setting the thread count higher generally does no harm, and possibly might speed the backup up.

I have mine set to 16, though I must admit I have never really tried to tune it.

Thanks again for the answers, will prolly set the threads to 16 then, just in case. Just waiting for my NAS to arrive, unconfirmed to the store 1 july..
