Adding 2nd Drive after 2+ years of use?

Hello All,

I am looking into finally doing what I should have done when I originally purchased my NAS. Putting in another HDD of equal size for a RAID1.

I have another empty, non-partitioned, completely clean 500gb HDD sitting next to me, and I'm staring at my NAS running with 1 HDD @ 500gb. Is it safe to simply put the extra HDD in? Is there a step I need to do? Am I missing something entirely?

I do all this stuff at work in a much larger environment and I don't even second guess myself. Here I am sweating like a pig about it. I don't want to lose my data. and have no other backups.

Thanks in advance.

Hot-swap it, add it while the system is running. It will resync the second drive into the array for redundancy.

Thanks for the quick reply Chirpa, I figured it was going to be that simple but I was afraid I guess. Lol.

Be doing it shortly.

Thanks!
