Adding HDD ReadyNAS 104 - will they all format?

hi all,
I have kicked things off with a 1TB HDD. Have got firmware updated and copied some media over from main PC and gave Plex a test drive. all good so far.

What i want to do now is progressively add the other HDD, i have 4 x 1TB in total to fill it up. 2 of these are in my main PC, TV & Movies. I need to do this progressively because of the amount of data i have and nowhere else to save it during transition. So what i have done so far is transfer all my movies from the drive it was on to the NAS. Then i thought i could add that drive to the NAS as my second, then repeat this process for my TV drive.

but because I've already copied stuff over I'm not clear on if the NAS will try and format all the drives when i add new ones or just the new ones? Don't want to lose my medias 😄

hope someone can clarify for me. thx

When you add a disk (while the NAS is on) you should the option to destroy the data on the added disk under Volumes in the Dashboard. Disks containing data won't be wiped unless you tell the NAS to wipe them.

thanks mdgm for the prompt reply.

so when i add the next one and choose to delete the data is there then an option to add it into my x-raid setup and then repeat this so it keeps expanding as required?

and also i guess, if i choose to keep it separate it becomes a separate volume with all data intact?

In Xraid it may add the disk automatically, and yes if it does not you will be able to add the disk to the existing volume.
You would only be able to set up a 2nd volume if you were in flex raid mode, and the nas will then format the disk as a new volume (and destroy any data on it), so no the data will not remain intact.
