Almost Constant ReadyNAS Traffic on Lion with 4.1.8-T5

I just noticed that since I updated RAIDiator from 4.1.7 to 4.1.8-T5, there is almost constant traffic, 500k/s to over 1m/s, whether or not Time Machine is active.

Since the update, my Time Machine volume no longer automatically unmounts so I have tried unmounting the volume manually and this has not stopped the traffic. Time Machine is taking in the region of 50 minutes to perform a backup of around 3MB.

I have quit all applications and the traffic is still streaming IN. I have checked with the traffic monitor on my router and none is coming from my broadband connection, so I think it's safe to deduce that this is local traffic to the ReadyNAS Duo.

Dunno if it's related but my internet speed is sometimes extremely slow. Ad waiting for Time Machine to finish a 3MB backup befor I put my MBP to sleep or shut down is excruciating.

Since this is a beta version I recommend you contact support on the same ticket you received the beta firmware on and report the issue.

Re: Almost Constant ReadyNAS Traffic on Lion with 4.1.8-T5

For some reason, I never saw the above reply until I started to get the problem again and checked for replies. As the response refers to the RAIDiator version being beta, maybe I should mention that I am having the same problem again, now with the final of 4.1.8.

I have four means of metering my network traffic and they all are indicating the same, around 1.0 M/s but can get as high as 5.0 M/s. It seems to be choking my WiFi internet connection as sometimes images take about 30s to load, it's like being in the 1990s again with a 12k modem.

Fortunately I am able to see graphically, though not quantitively, that the traffic is mainly in this order:

diskimages-helper ReadyNAS.local
Mac OS X Kernel ReadyNAS.local
lsof ReadyNAS.local

This is NOT when Time Machine is backing up, but as mentioned before, I have noticed that Time Machine is not unmounting the backup volume when it has completed the backup and as soon as I manually 'eject' it, the network activity ceases.

Can anybody please advise me.

Re: Almost Constant ReadyNAS Traffic on Lion with 4.1.8-T5

I'm having the same issue on Lion with the 4.1.8 final release (although I'm not convinced that's the issue). Anyone have any ideas on this?

I am also having problems with this issue. It is practically killing any internet access. I have had off and on issues before updating the firmware or OS.

ReadyNAS NV+. v4.1.8

Early 2008 iMac, 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB ram, OS X Lion, Gigabit ether net, VLAN not enabled, Jumbo frames not enabled, C IFS, AFP, FTP, HTTP and HTTPS enabled, Data journaling enabled, Full data journaling disabled, Fast C IFS writes enabled, Bonjour service enabled, UPnP not enabled, iTunes streaming server enabled.

Cj, I have the exact IMac as you with bonjour disabled and iTunes streaming disabled, jumbo frames enabled.. All other settings you have exactly. I have no probs, hope it helps you with troubleshooting. Can't get iTunes server to load completely, low priority but will fix later. When time machine backs up over gigE to my NV+ get some delays that's it.

Re: Almost Constant ReadyNAS Traffic on Lion with 4.1.8-T5

flamesong: So if time machine does not run is the network still slow?

I have the same setup here and have not seen any issues

Could there be a add-on you have that could be accessing the network?

Cjpainter: Any addons bitorrent or streaming that are enabled? Does this only affect local browsing?

Another thing to try is unplug the readynas off the network and see if the issues are still happening.
