Backing up data from ReadyNas to USB hard drive
I have 1 TB USB Hard drive for backing up data from ReadyNas weekly Basis. But after few weeks USB hard drive disk become full and backup failed. I normally use backup button for this job. Is there any overwrite function in backup job so that it will overwrite some of my previous backups with new backups and will not give any disk full message in future.
Thanks,

Re: Backing up data from ReadyNas to USB hard drive
Hi Harunor,
You can indeed do what you are looking for. You just have to do a bit "trickery". The overwirte function that you mention is something is specific to the Linux rysnc protocol (often used for backups). It is easy to setup and there is a good guide here:
http://www.rnasguide.com/2010/09/23/rsync-backup-to-usb-disk/
- Especially step 7 in that guide is of interest to you.
You can also see a forum discussion around it here:
That is how I run my own backups on my NAS-to-USB. However, be careful with this! The delete option in rsync is great to keep a mirror of your data on the NAS to the data on backup target USB. But... if you delete a file per accident on NAS and then run the backup job - well that file will now also be deleted from the backup destination. Even more reason to use snapshots as well on the NAS 🙂

Thanks for your reply. Is there any option in Netgear Ready Nas like RSYNC.
