Re: Can't connect from Windows after new router installed

Hello all,

I've been using my ReadyNAS 104 for years with a couple of different modem/routers. Just recently installed a new one, which is working fine, but I can no longer see or connect to the NAS via Windows Explorer (where I have/had it mapped to a network location).

The Desktop and the NAS are both connected to the router via network cable.

I can still load the NAS via the IP in a browser, then drag/drop files to it from Explorer.

But if I try to open the network connection in Windows Explorer I get "Windows Can not access ..." with a Diagnose button, which when I press it, gives "an error occurred while trying to load the troubleshooter". The error details on the Can not access popup say:

Error Code 0x80070035

The network path was not found

I have always had problems where after a certain amount of time, the network connection seems to die, resulting in a similar difficulty opening the NAS in Explorer, but a reboot will restore it (annoying but tolerable and I could never find a fix). This seems to be something more permanent.

Anyone have any suggestions? Do I need to maybe delete the network location and create it again? If so, I'm not actually sure how to do that. I did try a 'Network Reset', where windows supposedly resets all network settings to defaults. That didn't work and actually didn't remove the location from Network Locations either.

If I can't fix it, I can live with it, but it seems to me like something someone here will know how to resolve properly.

What happens if you open Explorer, and just enter \\nas-ip-address in the address bar? (using the real IP address of the NAS of course).

Be careful to use the correct slash character (// will just open your browser, so a waste of time).

Well that appears to have worked! It brings up a network credentials login dialog, and I used the NAS login details and it got me in. I didn't select the 'remember login details' checkbox, but I imagine/hope if I do this again after reboot or time out or whatever, it might allow me to not have to do this every time I want to connect.

I'll try mapping a drive letter to it now as well.

I actually did try this yesterday, saw the same login dialog, but it failed for some reason - maybe something as simple as a typo in the password as I didn't try it again since until now.
