Cannot Access NAS from Windows 7 anymore
Firts, Please be kind. First time I have had any problems with the NAS and first post on this forum.
Secondly I am not into network speak so I may give information that you may find of little use
OK. I have a ReadyNAS Duo which up until now has been working perfectly from the day it came out of its box. I use it as my music server for my house. I rip from CD to PC then copy to NAS using windows 7 Explorer, Perfect.
After a long ripping session I was about to set of the transfer to NAS when I was presented with the error that ' Windows cannot access \\NAS-XXXX-XXXX'
I ran diagnostics and it reported the issue
'The remote device or resource won't accept the connection
The device or resource (NAS-XXXXX-XXXXX) is not set up to accept connections on port "The File and printer sharing (SMB)".
Under Network in Windows Explorer. My main PC is shown and the Nas appears and then dissapears, then may come back or not. The Nas always shows up as a Media device and a storage device. My music server software can see, and use, all the content on the \media share
The ONLY change to the network in recent days was replacing my router from an older Netgear to a new D-Link. I tried swapping back but get the same error.
Please help as I have hundreds of CD's ripped to this Nas and will take a LARGE investment in time to replace.
Thanks in advance and if you need anymore information please do not hesitate to ask

- dbott67GuideCan you login to Frontivew (https://ip.address.of.nas/admin)? If so, can you post the network settings for the Duo. The settings are under Frontview > Network > Interfaces. I need the IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS settings (the last 2 may be under "Global Settings").
If you can't login to Frontview, please run RAIDar and post what it says for IP address and status.
Also, can you post the network settings for your computer (IP address, subnet mask, etc)? You can get the info by typing ipconfig /all at the command prompt:C:\Users\dbott>ipconfig /all

Like you I am also computer illiterate but somehow scrape by usualyy managing to search for info and sort stuff out myself but this ones stumped me and I'm a bit buggered without access to my duo as I'm currently unemployed and need to get my cv and other things to apply for jobs.
I got myself a brand new Dell xps 17 1702x laptop yesterday(really impressed so far) with windows 7 64, I set up latest raidar and things seemed to work ok, not brilliant but ok(I have issues accessing folders on readynas if i use itunes at the same time, my itunes media is stored on readynas). My duo showed up under Network-> computers, media servers, storage and i believe homegroup(possibly).
I started up windows today and the readynas showed under computers for a while but It wouldn't let me access anything, I too was presented with the error that ' Windows cannot access \\NAS-XXXX-XXXX'
I ran diagnostics and it reported the issue
'The remote device or resource won't accept the connection
The device or resource (NAS-XXXXX-XXXXX) is not set up to accept connections on port "The File and printer sharing (SMB)"
Eventually my duo disapeared from computers but remained on media servers and storage. I can access frontview. when i use raidar to browse the readynas, raidar freezes and i have to force it to close. I didn't know what I was doing but I tried mapping a drive but got nowhere(same error as above or incorrect address). If it helps I have McAfee installed, don't know if this will cause these issues but its firewall caused me no end of problems on my old xp laptop. If i type my dou address into windows explorer it takes me to my shares on my browser(firefox).
dbott67, Below is the info you asked smiggy666 to submit, I'd really appreciate it if you could help me too. smiggy666, appologies again if i'm butting in.

The remote device or resource won't accept the connection Detected The device or resource (192.168.2.2) is not set up to accept connections on port "The File and printer sharing (SMB)".
Contact your network administrator Completed The computer or device you are trying to reach is available, but it doesn’t support what you’re trying to do. This might be a configuration issue or a limitation of the device. - PapaBear1ApprenticeLearoy1 - what is the workgroup name set on your Windows 7 laptop? (Control Panel -> System & Security -> System) In that window, the workgroup name is shown in the third panel down along with computer name.
If you have access to Frontview on your Duo, what is the workgroup name on the Duo? Found on the security mode page under the security button on the menu on the left side of the Frontview window. - Learoy1AspirantThanks for helping Papabear.
It is WORKGROUP for both. - Learoy1AspirantSorry I completely forgot to mention...
That did not solve the problem. - dbott67GuideA few other questions:
1. What firmware version is installed on your NAS?
2. What security mode is the unit set to - share mode or user mode?
3. Are you able to connect to the NAS using a different device or operating system?
If you're able to connect using a different OS or computer, then the issue is likely with the Win 7 x64 PC (although if your NAS is set to "share" mode security, I believe Win 7 will not connect which is why I asked question #2).
If you are unable to connect with any other device, you're running the latest firmware (4.1.7) and the unit is set to user mode security, then you could always try a firmware re-installation. This does not affect your data or shares, but it will reset your network settings back to default values (DHCP) and your admin password (netgear1). Everything will remain untouched:
http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how ... e_firmware - PapaBear1ApprenticeI don't think the Duo ever had share mode. I mentioned this once and mdgm posted that only the NV+ and older units ever had that.
Learoy1 - the firmware re-install is a good idea as that will reset the configuration, but leave the data intact. That was to be my next suggestion, but dbott beat me to it. - mr_duoAspirantI am having the same problem. This is a recent development as I've owned my 2 ReadyNAS Duos for a couple of years now and never had any problem accessing htem before, either from a Windows XP or 7 machine. I hadn't logged in for a while, but was having trouble accessing one of my drives from my PS3 and wanted to see if there was a setting problem. Raidar was able to see the drives, but when I tried to go to Setup, IE9 tells me that it cannot display the webpage. When I click on Diagnose Connection Problems, after a few moments, I'm told "The remote device or resource won't accepth the connection". My XP machine has IE8 on it and has a similar problem, though the error message is slightly different. I can view, read and write the files on teh drives without a problem, but can't get to setup/login as admin on either machine. I have Norton Internet Security on the W7 computer and Mcafee on the other, though I've tried turning off various portions of hte protection including Smart Firewall to no avail. I do recall that I used to get a message relating to a bad certificate, but it's not getting to that point in the drive access now. Any help would be appreciated.
