DUO v1 and El Capitan: cannot connect via AFP (and Time machine)

Hi,

I have an ancient Duo v1 which I recently revived, running radiator 4.1.14 (latest version, I believe) and a Mac running El Capitan 10.11.3.

I can connect to the Duo via CIFS but not via AFP (and hence time machine will not work). I have tired both in finder and via go--> connect server.. Any ideas? Is this a compatability issue? the Duo V1 does not support the latest AFP protocol?

Many thanks!

Chris

Hello chris_st,

ReadyNAS Duo v1 is really an old model, not really sure here if the AFP version of El Capitan would work with it but did you already try disabling and re-enabling AFP in the FrontView?

I have seen some problems with AFP of TimeMachine, even other brands, you will see it if you google it. TimeMachine uses AFP by the way.

Welcome to the community!

Hi JennC,

yes, I have tried that already. AFP does work with my Ultra4, just not the Duo

Hello chris_st,

Are you getting any errors?

no errors, it shows up in finder, just behaves as if the username/PW are wrong (same for time machine), user/PW work fine on CIFS

Have you verified that the AFP settings are correct on your shares?

Can you send me your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)?

Don't forget that Time Machine is set up with a separate username and password in Frontview.

Your AFP log indicates that there are too many connections.

Have you tried rebooting the NAS?

Re: DUO v1 and El Capitan: cannot connect via AFP (and Time machine)

sorry for the late reply, I was away for the weekend.

I had rebooted it before but just did it again, several times, also turned on/off afp etc. Still the same symptoms. Will send you new logs.

Re: DUO v1 and El Capitan: cannot connect via AFP (and Time machine)

Works fine for us with 4.1.14 and 10.11.3.

What error do you get when trying to connect? Are you using any elaborate security settings on the share(s)? Can you try with guest AFP access on the share and see if that works (to help isolate the cause of the problem)?

Re: DUO v1 and El Capitan: cannot connect via AFP (and Time machine)

i'm not getting any error, just the "wiggeling" password box from apple, both in finder and same for time machine (different username/pw so I know that is not the issue). Guest access also does not work. I am not using any special security settings, it's a fresh firmware install

Re: DUO v1 and El Capitan: cannot connect via AFP (and Time machine)

Hi chris_st,

Do you have other MAC computer to test with? Also, try checking the File Sharing settings of your MAC and see if it can locally share a folder between multiple computers (specifically in MAC).

Kind regards,

Re: DUO v1 and El Capitan: cannot connect via AFP (and Time machine)

i don't have another MAC, unfortunately.

all file share setting seem ok. In finder, when i click on "DUO (AFP)", in the window where the option "connect as" is, it already says "connection failed" without me entering any user/PW details (but maybe it saves it from the previous attempt), as I said neither guest, admin or any user can connect

Re: DUO v1 and El Capitan: cannot connect via AFP (and Time machine)

Hello chris_st,

What's the default access of the share/s that have AFP enabled?

How about trying to reset permission of the share that has the AFP enabled?

Regards,
