Dead after a prolonged switch off!
NV+ RND 4000 V3
nothing happens with the power button is pressed. It has been connected though not powered on for a few months and we did have a power outage during that time.
thoughts?
i have not checked the button battery yet for voltage but removing and replacing it makes no difference.
fir reference the DUO kept in the same place under the same conditions came to life with no issues and is busy resyncing.
so to sum up with discs in or out nothing happens when trying to start it up.

Re: Dead after a prolonged switch off!
There are other threads on this e.g. ReadyNas NV+ (v1) Upgrade Transfer Help
One obvious sign of a failed PSU would be a burnt smell or signs of that when inspecting it. We do have a guide for replacing the PSU: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/21418/~/how-do-i-replace-the-stock-power-supply-on-the...
A standard ATX PSU may not fit in the case and the pinout would have to be modified for it to be safely used.

Re: Dead after a prolonged switch off!
well look what i have found.
https://www.overtek.co.uk/products/netgear-readynas-power-supply-psu-replacement
yep after reading loads of threads on here about PSU failures, and even one that seems just the same as mine, power off and dead, it looks like it could well be the PSU even though there has been no smoke or smell or sign of scorching it looks like if a clean out does not fix it i will be putting it away until a new unit arrives.
the company was found via a google search bringing me back to this forum.
cheers again.

Re: Dead after a prolonged switch off!
Hi Nads,
Since you've ordered a new unit instead of a PSU replacement, are you going to use the same set of drives from your old unit or will it be a set of new one's? Also, if these old drives of yours are still functional, will you be needing the contents or data stored from it?
Looking forward to your response.
Kind regards,
BrianL

Re: Dead after a prolonged switch off!
Brian I have not actually ordered it yet as I wanted to check the one that was in. Which I can say now is dead.
the plan is to use the existing HDD as there was no issues before I shut it down.
advice and alternatives greatly received, I am in no hurry to fix it but fix it I need to.
alternative 4 bay chassis? Was configured with raid X.

I think Brian misread your post.
My suggestion is to get your NV+ running with a new PSU, and then get a newer NAS (RN200 series perhaps) and start with with new disks.
Then copy the data over the network to the new NAS, and repurpose the NV+ as a backup machine.

Re: Dead after a prolonged switch off!
Hi Nads,
I apologize. I may have misread your post because I thought you're expecting a new unit (as posted on your previous post). Anyway, StephenB have given already presented your options and it's all up to you which you'll choose.
Kind regards,
BrianL

Re: Dead after a prolonged switch off!
Further questions.
on my duo I am running Logitech media server software. Was squeeze center and came pre installed on your older NAS.
are the newer NAS from netgear compatible? Can't see anything on Logitechs web pages.
looking at options if both compatible NAS fail as to how to continue with the multiple music players I still have.
collecting a new PSU locally in a few hours so I can get back up and running.
