Disk on channel 1 failed, Solutions?
Hello, i hope someone can help.
i have a ReadyNAS NV+ v2 2V0428E100328, with 3 3TB Seagate ST3000DM001-9YN166 and one ST3000DM001-1CH166 on channel (bay?) 4.
the NAS turned itself off saying "The disk on channel 1 has failed. Shutting down the system to prevent possible data loss resulting from additional failed drives."
so i checked the drive on bay 1 pulling it off and using the pc with seatools. everything passed, the only concern is that i could not check the SMART because seatools doesn't show SMART check on the particular drive.
turning back the NAS it shows on the display "C: unprotected" but all the drive inside seems fine.
Any solution?
I apologize for my poor English if something is not clear ill'try to explain it better.
Thany you

Re: Disk on channel 1 failed, Solutions?
You need to replace the disk you removed with a new disk at least 3 tb in size.
I would not recommend anything else.
It's possible the disk you removed is not broken, but you can't really take a chance with it.
You should have a backup of your data.

Re: Disk on channel 1 failed, Solutions?
Have you inserted a new disk into slot 1?
I'd be a little concerned if there is a resync going on on an unprotected volume without a replacement disk as this could lead to another disk failure. If this happens you will lose your data.
Can you leave the NAS off until you can replace the disk?
Have you got a backup of the data, if not you can do one now? But until there is a backup you are in a risky situation.

Re: Disk on channel 1 failed, Solutions?
That's a good question.
Normally if you power off during a resync, the process just starts up again when you reboot.
It depends why the unit is doing a resync now. If it's doing it because the volume has lost a disk and the other disks are ok then you are ok to just power down. If it's doing it because there is a problem with another disk then you may have a problem.
Can you look at the smart information for the remaining disks, look for errors in reallocated sectors and pending sectors

Re: Disk on channel 1 failed, Solutions?
I am having the same problem. I had a system shutdown due to issue on channel 1 (not a very specific error!), I think there is a good possibility this is due to a raid timing issue, as I am using 3 x 3TB desktop hard drives and one of them is a different model.
I have checked the disks and they all seem fine.
I can see no errors anywhere, but it still boots up to the "C: unprotected" error on the led screen and shows as non-redundant in the dashboard config.
Is there some way of forcing a resync? Because even if I was to replace a disk, which one would I replace?

Re: Disk on channel 1 failed, Solutions?
OK, I got this to resync. I had tried rebooting a couple of times which didn't work.
I turned off and unplugged the unit for 30 seconds or so, and booted up. It's now showing that disk 2 is re-syncing.
...now to replace all disks with NAS hard drives.
