El Capitan connection to ReadyNAS (NV+) very slow

I have been using my NV+ for years connecting both MAC and Windows machines. Everything was fine until I updated the MAC to El Capitan. Since then, the NAS is recognized fine, but the directory refreshes, file access and file transfers are very slow. I am running the newest firmware on NAS: 4.1.14

Any Ideas on how to speed things up. It it very frustrating to have to sit for 3 or 4 minutes to load a directory!

Thanks,

If you still have a Mac that isn't yet running El Capitan is the performance using that Mac fine?

Yes, the other Macs and Windows machines are fine. The problem is how El Capitan reads the NAS file structure.

Re: El Capitan connection to ReadyNAS (NV+) very slow - Partial Solution Found

I have found on an Apple site a partial cure to the MAC OS's reading from NAS mounts:

Type the following in Terminal (no sudo needed)  and reboot the computer:

defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores true

Find the Terminal program in your applications/utilities folder. It is a command line interface. Simply type the line above exactly as you see it (you might be able to copy and paste it). Then restart the computer and you are all set.

This tremendously increases the speed of folder updates and transfer of multiple small files.

There are several sites that make this suggestion - one is here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5500165?start=15&tstart=0
