Folder access problem

Hello,

I have Netgear Nas, firmware 6.2.

Under the tab Share's i made some folders.
A guest folder, no problem.

And a folder with restrictions, but i don't get any access to it.
Under the SMB settings i removed the guest, and add a user with the permissions to read and write.
But no access is possible with windows 8.

Re: Folder access problem

What nas do you have?
Is the windows user that is logged in the same ( username and password) as the user you have given access?

What message do you get when you try to access the share from your PC?

I a have a ReadyNas pro 2
The name of the user that logged in is not the same.
Error is wrong user name and password. And access denied.
I am 100% sure that i didn't make a mistake with the username and password.

Re: Folder access problem

Windows is giving you a password prompt though?

You installed 6.2 on your pro yourself?

Re: Folder access problem

I've never been able to access restricted shares unless I'm logged in to windows (7) as a user that matches the nas user to whom access has been granted.
I get a login dialogue box but the credentials don't work.
I have just resorted to using the appropriate windows user when I need to access these shares.

Can you do this?

Edit: I don't think it's 6.2.0 that is the problem.

You could try this:
Open a dos cmd box and type:
net use * /delete

That works for me but it's a pain to do it every time you want to connect, and of course there is no way to log out of the restricted share without repeating the dos command.

Re: Folder access problem

That didn't work.

I tried the tips in the link, but that didn't work.

I made a user with the credentials of the login of the win8 system. No access to the folder.
But when i use the admin/password it works. That is not what i want, but isn't that strange?

Maybe a win8 problem?

Re: Folder access problem

I presume you gave that new user read/write permissions to the share, and that you've given network access and file access to the users. Network access and file access are set separately.

Re: Folder access problem

What are listed as the folder owner and group?
Can you access the share if you enable access for everyone?
If not, can you access the share if you turn on anonymous access again?
Do you have any other PCs on your LAN?
Are there entries in windows credentials manager for the nas?

Re: Folder access problem

So the owner of the share is "Owner"??
And group is "group"?

Could you clarify?

Re: Folder access problem

Hello,

I found out something, the owner can access 😄
Only a not owner has no access, what if another user also needs access?

Group = Users

Re: Folder access problem

Is the user you want to give permissions to, part of the users group or a different group.
If part of users, what happens when you give read/write access to folder group.

Also in accounts/authentication, is the workgroup the same as your PC workgroup? ..and it is set to Local Users?

Re: Folder access problem

Sorry for my late respons.

I only have one user group. Also tried 2 users groups, one partens, and childeren.

I can't find any workgroup settings?
Is it possible to give you remote access?

What i want is:
maps - access parents
maps - access childs and parent

It looks easy but i can't get it working. I have a WHS homeserer. No problem to change the access settings there, but in the netgear i can't get it working.
Can i send some screenshots, maybe that is easier?
