How do I see my Time Machine?
OK, I've had my ReadyNAS NV+ for years and basically used it as a file server. I consider myself to be completely naive on the inner workings of both my Mac and my NAS.
Now that I've established myself as a compete noob, here's my question.
I've got three Macs at home that are all hooked into the Time Machine partition on the NAS, currently set to 500GB. We just had to replace my wife's Macbook Pro as the unit just died (side-bar, AppleCare agreement is awesome!) Anyway, I went to set up Time Machine on the new computer and it says that there is no space left.
Thanks in advance for the assistance.

- How do I delete the old Time Machine?
- How do I even see it, I've found other threads that mention that it's posted elsewhere, but my searches have turned up nothing? Do i see it in Front View, Finder?
Thanks in advance for the assistance.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf you have CIFS enabled, I would go to the Finder, select the Go menu, connect to server and connect to "smb://ip.address.of.nas/c/.timemachine". You can then delete the sparsebundle there. It can take hours to delete, so be patient.
You could alternatively increase the limit in Frontview beyond the 500GB limit currently set. - matteburyAspirant

I tried that, putting in the ip address of my NAS and using the username and password of the time machine and it says there was an error connecting. I think that I have CIFS enabled, at least it's "colored" in front view for all of my other shares and I do see the NAS name with CIFS after the name in finder, as well as AFP. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou need to login to CIFS as the "admin" (Frontview user).
As for AFP, you can connect to the Time Machine share simply by logging into AFP as the Time Machine user - matteburyAspirantI'm sure this is painfully obvious, but when I type in the admin and password for Frontview into the dialog box for finder using the Go|Connect to Server (registered user radio button not guest, correct?) I still get the same message. By default, I'm logged into the NAS as "Guest," but I can connect as admin to both CIFS and AFP, however, I do not see the Time Machine Volume in either when logged on, does it take time to show up and I'm being impatient?
- matteburyAspirantNever mind, I obviously can't read where you told me (quite clearly) to log onto AFP as the Time Machine user. When I do that, I see the share and the various backups. Now I'll delete the old laptop folder and go to bed. Hopefully it's deleted by morning.
I'm getting old and need a better pair of reading glasses! That's my story and I'm sticking to it! - fheboAspirantHope that you've got it working now :)
Just a few tips & tricks from another newbie having trouble with deleting the sparsebundle:
a) Finding the sparsebundle is easier when logged into the NAS as admin :)
b) The NAS can be accessed both directly via IP and via the NAS' name
c) It is much faster to delete the sparsebundle from a windows pc! Here you must log in via the IP address eg 192.168.1.11 + admin/"password" - n_godwinAspirantAs mentioned earlier. I turned on CIFS and then accessed the sparsebundle via connect to server and connect to "smb://ip.address.of.nas/c/.timemachine"
There were two sparsebundles for some reason so deleted the one which hadn't been updated that day. It took about 20hrs to delete but got back 300Gb on the NAS drive so very happy. Now with the new space I'm not getting the Out of space messages and all is good.
Thanks again to everyone who has been on this thread and made the task a lot easier with your input.
