How to backup from remote to local

Hello again...

i want to back up my main folder with my files from Remote to a folder which i have create to the local. I try to do this but when i select remote it wants to fill:

Host

Protocol

Share

Password

I have linux (Ubuntu), how i fill these lines so i take backup my files? Also if a file from the remote is the same file to the local it replace it automatic or it will ask me? Thanks you and sorry for my bad English...

  • It ok now... my fault was that i do not share the folder which i want to take the backup. I do it with the first protocol!

Host is the IP address of the remote system.  Protocol depends on your preference, but Rsync is usually best when working with Linux on both ends.  Share is the full path of what you want backed up (without a leading "/").  For Rsync, you may or may not need a password, it depends on how you set up the remote Rsunc server..  For others or Rsync with password required, you do; and it must be a valid user name and password for that remote system.  Be aware that any firewall on the remote side may need to be set up to allow your NAS to "pull" data from that system.  If you don't have control of that, then do it the other way and have the remote system "push" data to the NAS.

Use the "Check connection" button to be sure you have it right.

Yes, all files with the same name and path will be overwritten with no warning.  When using Rsync, you also have the option on the Advanced page to have anything deleted on the remote system to be deleted on the NAS.
