How to backup/sync using FTP to ReadyNAS
Hello all,
Here is my problem or need so to speak.. Will describe the setup first so we have everything as clear as possible.
I've got a RN214 (ReadyNAS OS 6.5.1), with IP 192.168.10.1.
I've got a Humax HD5300C Decoder with IP 192.168.10.2 running FTP server, with a Sharkoon Quickport Pro USB diskstation connected as USB share/storage.
Devices are behind their own switch (192.168.10.250 and 192.168.10.251, both GS-108T (v1 and v2))..
Switches are connected to a TP-Link Archer C5 wifi router, using its LAN ports as Up/Downlinks.
Except for the Humax HD5300C Decoder all devices are capable of 1000Mbps, the Humax can do 100Mbps.
The disk in the USB docking is reachable and readable over the internet using SFTP/FTP.
I've the habit of recording several programmes on a daily basis, then every now and then I need to turn on my PC or laptop and pull the recordings from the recorder and put them on another NAS (a Lacie Network Space 2) with IP 192.168.10.4 with (S)FTP enabled, running and accesible using FileZilla client over the internet, so a friend of mine is able to download and watch these recordings when needed.
The thing is that I want to get rid of the fact I need to turn either my PC or laptop on and sit pretty waiting for the download to finish.
Both Windows Explorer as well as Filezilla are slowing things down due to the fact of the PC/Laptop being a device in the middle..
I want to be able to skip this step and therefore speed things up a bit and make life a bit easier...
My goal is the following:
Create a backuptask on the RN214, using FTP, to pull the recordings from the HD5300C to the RN214.
Then I want to configure the Lacie NAS to use rsync (netbackup) and pull/put the recordings on the Lacie.
The GUI interface of the RN214 gives the impression this is possible to accomplish, yet the backup task completes without copying any data.
Anyone with suggestions to get this going?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thx!

Are you using an FTP backup job or FTPS? Note that SFTP and FTPS are not the same.
Can you post a screen shot of the remote FTP settings used in the backup job?

HI Stephen,
First of all, thanks for taking the effort to look into this in the first place.
Below is a screenshot of the settings and the error this comes up with..
IP, username, password and path to media are correct and work like a charm in Filezilla Client.
The error is in Dutch and freely translates to English like:
Unable to connect to remote folder
Invalid networkname or access denied
The code is in numbers, I guess that is clear enough ;).
Hope this info helps a bit and enables you to help me out here.- StephenBGuru - Experienced User
Did you try taking away the first slash in the path (before media)?
Also, sometimes test connection misbehaves, so you might want to skip that and test the actual backup job.

Hi all,
Just out of curiousity...
Is there any news about progress on fixing this issue??
It would be appreciated when Netgear fixes the FTP Backup option so it actually will connect to this silly little bugger.. :)
If need be, I'm more then willing to test any suggestions if that helps in fixing this..
(fixing this would mean 'set and forget' instead of plugging in and out of cables for a manual backup...)
Hope to hear something soon..

Reading through your posts again, I am noticing some inconsistencies in the IP Addresses. The first post has the Humax as 10.168.10.2, the screenshot shows it as 192.168.10.171.

I just did an FTP backup with a remote ReadyNAS (6.6.0) to a ReadyNAS (6.6.1) and it works like a champ. If the source is on a remote ReadyNAS, the "Share" (called "Path" when you go back and edit settings) is just the share name (e.g Documents, not /data/Documents), so maybe that's your problem with the Humax. Try just "disk1".
