Is RAID 5 hot swap as is RAID 1?

On ReadyNAS Pro2 products with 2 drives, you could just wap the drives from one unit to another (putting in same exact location) and it didn't require any configuration or setup.  Is this possible for the newer ReadyNAS products like 312, 516 and in RAID 5 configuration?

Re: Is RAID 5 hot swap as is RAID 1?

You can migrate disks to a compatible unit (just like the ultra/pro 4.2.x systems).  That is, you could migrate from an RN300 NAS to an RN300/RN500/RN700 system, as long as it has enough drive bays.

This isn't "hot swap" since the systems are powered down when you migrate the drives.  Your use of "hot swap" in the title is perhaps complicating the replies.

312 is a 2 bay unit

raid 5 needs at least 3 drives

hot swap is a separate feature different from raid levels

Hot swapping refers to replacing failed disks or disks that you no longer wish to use while the NAS is on.

Migrating disks to another unit you would power off both units first.

What exactly are you looking to achieve?

Note that our new units use a new OS and different filesystem to your Pro 2.

Yes sorry, didn't mean hot swap.

Meant taking disks out from one unit to another after shutting it down.
