Re: Missing Share on NV+

I had shut off my ReadyNas NV+ for 5-weeks. When I turned it on after 5-weeks, one of my shares was missing.

Before shutting off the NV+, I had been receiving occasional SMART status errors, though had not observed any performance issues. Overall number of SMART errors was around 500--I wasn't too concerned about the smart errors.

When I booted to NAS after 5-weeks, I noticed one of the shares was not mounting.

In the shares list in FrontView, I can see the name of the share, but it reflects a VERY small amount of data.

I attempted to reset permissions to the share via the Share listing, but the share does not appear along with the others--even when authenticating with different users (who should have access to the missing share).

The NAS reports a significant amount of data being used (no different than before the share stopped appearing).

I believe the data is still on the NV+, I'm just unsure if I can either fix the share or if I can at least copy the data off.

I submitted a support request to Netgear via email, but thought I'd see if anyone here has any ideas.

That disk should have been replaced long ago before you ran into issues.

So you don't have a backup?

I encountered the SMARt errors, building at about 10-20 per day. I shut down the NAS and stopped using it.

I turned it on after I received a replacement drive.

That's when I noticed the missing share (the share in question was present and mounting all the way up until it turning back on after 5-weeks of shut down).

The disk in question has been replaced and the volume has re-synced.

I ssh'd to the device today and verified the share name is present at the root level of the drive with all expected data inside.

At this point, I'm curious if I just make a new share and mv the data to the new share, if that will just resolve the issue.

As an aside, I was surprised to notice that the volume hasn't expanded. I began with the NV+ set up as an expandable X-RAID with four 1.5TB disks. I have now replaced all four (one at a time over time) with 2TB disks, but the allocated amount for each disk is the same as it was with the 1.5TB drives.

Well I would suggest copying not moving. However if you try things without seeking advice from the support team it may make things worse and reduce the chances they can help you if you purchase support.

Is the share missing from /etc/frontview/samba/Shares.conf ?

The share appears to be there. The share name is "media", here is what its entry looks like in Shares.conf:

Any issues with the fullness of your OS partition?

If you reboot the NAS it should expand. It can take a few reboots (e.g. 5-10 minutes apart) before expansion starts. However I would suggest ensuring you have a backup before you try to get the NAS to expand.

Thanks, it ended up expanding on its own after a reboot.

Your 2GB OS partition is extremely full.

It should be say around 30% full.

There is an add-on that can be used to use the data volume for the ReadyDLNA database instead of /var/cache

However your usage figures suggest that the main problem is not in /var

Somewhere on the OS partition is using a lot of space that shouldn't be.

Do you have many add-ons installed? Have you installed things via SSH?

I have installed a few things via ssh (apt-get) over the years, though I can not recall precisely what. Where could I look to determine what is installed?

I've already removed the few extra add-ons that were installed, though I am still at 1.7/1.9GB.
