Re: Missing volume, dead disk.

Hello,

Is there any other way to get my logs to JennC?

The link provided seems to only good for those with a case number, which I don't have. Therefore, I used the "sending logs to a forum moderator"  email route. Which it turns out JennC has not got access to this, dispite be a Moderator. Can one of the nine people that have read my email contact JennC or suggest some other way to get them to JennC. Or Indeed offer me some guidance with my problem.

Here's sitting here and hoping all is not as bad as it looks.

Some more info.

The box is RNDP6000-V2 running V4.2.30 with six 2TB disks, one of which has now packed it's bags and left home to take up life as a door stop. I have a new WD red 6TB waiting in the wings to take up it's loyal duties as the next host to some of my data.

Regards

Re: Missing volume, dead disk.

Hello ipb_uk,

I found it already. Sorry, but if you badly need the data back, you really have to go for data recovery service. I think what happened here is that there were 2 disks that have gone faulty while this was configured as XRAID RAID5 and not RAID6. RAID5 provides fault tolerance to only one disk, meaning, it keeps data intact with one disk fault. In your case, it would have been better if it was configured as RAID6 where it provides fault tolerance up to 2 disks.

While there are some companies who offer this type of service, Netgear support also has this data recovery service but there is a fee as this has something to do now withusing a 3rd party software and non-Netgear.

Re: Missing volume, dead disk.

Hello JennC

I was hoping it might have been that some how it got it self in a mess and forgot about the current volume. Which might have been correctable some how, whithout rebuilding the volume.

If this isn't possible then I will put in the new disk which is a 6TB red with the remaining five 2TB disk and load up V6.6.0, as it's well out of warranty and go for RAID6.

Any pit falls with this?

Thank

Ian

Re: Missing volume, dead disk.

Hello JennC,

The box is well out of warranty. The last box was just inside warranty when is was exchanged eventually for this new one, some three years ago.

I don't see any option really. What with the expansion limits.

Thanks very much.

Ian.

Re: Missing volume, dead disk.

Hello

This might give you some ideas in expansion limits with ReadyNAS Pro running OS6: ReadyNAS Pro 6 and WD Red 6TB drives questions
