Moving disk from RNDX 4410 To Pro 4
Our ReadyNAS RVX (RNDX 4410) has failed. They do not have stock to replace it with, instead offering a ReadyNAS Pro 4.
Our requirement is simple 4 for 4 disk swap, the powers that be refuse to allow those disks to be erased and rebuilt. Since the firmware is installed on the disks, is there a compatibility issue here? Tech support said it will be fine since their both intel processors, but I just want to double check and see if im missing anything.

Re: Moving disk from RNDX 4410 To Pro 4
That migration should be fine, I think. NVX is 32-bit and Pro 4 is 64-bit. I wouldn't migrate the other way.
Pro 4 has a dual-core Atom CPU. It's a nice upgrade over the 32-bit CPU that was in your NVX (see CPU Specs of the ReadyNAS). The Pro 4 is a current model and the replacement for the NVX in the ReadyNAS line.
What firmware was running on the NVX when it failed? If you can put a spare disk (not from your array) in the Pro 4 and ensure the firmware is at least as up to date as what was on the NVX. Then power down, remove the spare disk and migrate your disks across as per http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_migrate_disks_over_from_an_existing_readynas_to_another

Hi,
Please open a call and open a case with tech support. The unit must be installed with the same Firmware for the disks to be compatible. Also make sure you put them in the same order as the disks are slot dependent.
Netgear Support.

Re: Moving disk from RNDX 4410 To Pro 4
bpeddada, colosis must already have a case with support. Otherwise why would have NetGear offered an RMA?
The firmware doesn't necessarily have to be exactly the same (though that's best). It is definitely recommended though to have at least as new firmware in the replacement unit as what was in the dead one. If the firmware is too old in the replacement unit then the NAS wouldn't be able to boot off the disks.
Also the link I gave already suggested to keep the ordering the same. Whilst this is strongly recommended it is not essential.

Re: Moving disk from RNDX 4410 To Pro 4
Thanks for the help so far.
bpeddada, I have called them. They said it would be fine as both were intel processors but they didn't mention anything about firmware. The one I spoke with didn't sound too confident which is why I posted to get a second opinion.
I do not know what firmware is installed. The unit itself is not seen on the network (performed appropriate isolation steps, narrowed down to issue with the NAS) so checking in RAIDar / web interface is not possible. Don't suppose there is any other way to find out?

Re: Moving disk from RNDX 4410 To Pro 4
Update the replacement unit to the latest firmware how I suggested and you should be fine.
If you don't do the above worst that would probably happen is that the NAS wouldn't boot due to not being able to boot off the disks. You could then work with support to resolve that issue

Re: Moving disk from RNDX 4410 To Pro 4
OS reinstall should fix the issues in this migration. As mdgm said, 32-bit to 64-bit, so some things will be a bit broken at first, with the reinstall correcting them.
