OS 6.5.1 Upgrade from OS 4 - Default Password Issue (Ultra 6)

I just upgraded my Ultra 6 to OS 6.5.1 and I'm having an issue accessing the Admin page.

In the lower left corner of RADar is a box that reads, "Offline Setup (LAN)". I click that and get the standard login in screen. I've keyed "admin" as the user and tried "netgear1" as the password. No love. I tried my "old" password. No love.

Eventually I get the Reset Password screen which tells me password recovery has not been set up on this device.

I can't do a reinstall since I can't get to the admin area.

I can't do a factory reset since my reset button in the rear of the Ultra 6 seems to be faulty.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can try?

Thanks,

Dave-

As a note I've cleared my broswer (Firefox) cache.

Yes OS5 and later have a different default password to OS4.

Aaaagh!  I've upgraded to 6.5.1 and having the same problem of the old password not working.

But the admin - "password" isn't working for me either... any thoughts?!

Did you just upgrade from RAIDiator-x86 4.2.x? If so, did you install the PrepR4toR6 add-on before installing the R4toR6 image? If you did not install the add-on, you need to do a manual factory default (wipes all data, settings, everything) using the boot menu

If you didn't just upgrade from OS4, you could try password recovery or perhaps an OS Re-install.

Thanks for the quick reply - I upgraded from 6.4.1 I think.... 6.4.something anyway

Really don't like the sound of a factory reset....

Sorry, didn't fully answer your question - I can't do a password recovery as it says this hasn't been setup.  How I do an OS re-install?

I should add that I can access my files as usual through the ip address, just not the admin page...

Page 26-27 here: http://www.readynas.com/download/documentation/HM/ReadyNAS_Ultra_UltraPlus_Pro_HW_13April11.pdf

That will reset the password to password and also reset the IP address configuration to use dhcp.

Re: OS 6.5.1 Upgrade from OS 4 - Default Password Issue (Ultra 6)

Looking at your profile it seems you have the RN104 which is an OS6 unit. Quite confusing to have discussion of units that shipped with ReadyNAS OS 6 in this thread, if that is the unit you are referring to as this thread was talling about a unit that was running RAIDiator-x86 4.2.x and just had OS6 put on it.

If you are talking about the RN104 then take a look at http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22891/~/how-do-i-access-the-boot-menu-on-my-readynas-1...

Re: OS 6.5.1 Upgrade from OS 4 - Default Password Issue (Ultra 6)

I do have an RN104, apologies if it's the wrong thread, they just had the exact same symptoms I had.

Your advice has solved it though, OS reinstall has allowed me access to the admin page.  I started the whole process because ReadyCloud wasn't working and I hoped a firmware update might fix it - no joy yet but I'll persevere...

Thanks for your help!

You may wish to start a new thread on that.
