I am having difficulty getting my ReadyNAS NV to boot with a power on schedule. I happened to note that in the System > Config Backup the backup files /etc/cron.d/ directory there is a poweroff file but not poweron file. In the poweroff file has correct cron instructions for calls to /frontview/bin/autopoweroff. There does not seem to be any cron instructions for a power on.
I would like to see what the init file and the /frontview/bin files look like. I cannot figure out how to rlogin or telnet in. I do not have the secret handshake.
Does any one have some hints on how to get rlogged in or get the system to start up on schedule as it should?
I got the secret handshake on how to ssh to the nas. As you noted, the poweroff script calls the poweron_timer file you noted. That file is intact and correct. I will take your word for it that no other program calls the poweron_timer file and I need to start from a poweroff running condition. To make this work I will need to modify the times while the system has auto-started and not yet auto-started. Right? Kind of an almost catch 22 condition. I will give it a try.
Please don't post serial numbers. Whilst it shouldn't be an issue for an out of warranty system, it's still best practice not to. The serial number uniquely identifies your device.
So long as the NAS has been turned off via the power timer, the power on timer should work.
Power On timer only triggers if Power Off shutdown the system. If you power down yourself, the timer is not set. I don't have a Sparc system to poke around at anymore, but look at what the shutdown/poweroff scripts do. There is a line in there to add the RTC alarm, you could mimic that to trigger custom power on timers.
