RN10200 Unable to Boot or reset or reinstall OS

My ReadyNAS is invisible to raidAIR and doesn't even show up under my routers connected devices list. I've tried several times to factory reset and it doesn't seem to work. I tried upgrading firmware back sometime in the winter and since then the readyNAS got put away in a box. Recently went to use it again and remembered why it ended up in the box... I've tried an OS reinstall just now with 2 different USB sticks, both times the process goes about it's thing very quickly, but then nothing happens. Is the readyNAS toast or should I just keep trying with other USB drives?

Also, the unit is unresponsive to the power button and passed the memory test. I'm kind of stumped.

If you remove the disks, will RAIDar see the NAS?

Re: RN10200 Unable to Boot or reset or reinstall OS

No, it makes no difference. I've read that apparently there was an issue with the 6.4 update, and if I remember, that is the one I tried to install..?

Yes, there was an issue there - described here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29952/~/readynas-os-6%3A-usb-recovery-tool

Some users needed to try multiple USB drives before they found one that worked.

Re: RN10200 Unable to Boot or reset or reinstall OS

Does it make a difference what firmware I try to use with the OS recovery tool? The help article makes it seem it has to be the same one as the previous failed attempt, but I've been using the most recent one.. Could that be the issue?

Re: RN10200 Unable to Boot or reset or reinstall OS

When you perform the USB Boot Recovery does the NAS power off when done?

It shouldn't make a difference between 6.4 and 6.5.1.

But between 6.2.5 and 6.4/6.5 it wouldn't be advisable.

Nope, it just sits there with the power & backup light steady on.

Re: RN10200 Unable to Boot or reset or reinstall OS

Hi Frank,

Did you get RN10200 working?

I've got the same issue, nothing seems to work.  I've tried 4 different USB, nothing, the device flashes, USB flashes, this carried on for a day.

Is this now a paper weight?

Any help will be great!

Never got it to work, mine is effectively a paperweight, which is a damn shame.

Re: RN10200 Unable to Boot or reset or reinstall OS

Hi guys,

I have sent both of you a PM with a few things that could be tried.

Have you tried USB Boot Recovery with ReadyNASOS 6.6.1-T230 (Beta 4)?

Re: RN10200 Unable to Boot or reset or reinstall OS

Xin_man's system looks like it's fixed. It had 6.0.0, the very first production firmware on it. I manually updated the firmware on the system to the latest beta (but if you are updating a system yourself you do need to follow the recommended firmware update path) and seeing a factory reset had just been done triggered another one and it looks like it probably came up fine.

frank- if you still have issues with your system please let me know. I believe I sent you a PM a while back with a suggestion.

Re: RN10200 Unable to Boot or reset or reinstall OS

I have an rn10200 that appears to be completely dead except for the ethernet port lights.

When trying to power up, no lights on the front light up, the fan does not spin up.

But if you hold the power button, you can hear the hard drive almost try to spin up (but never does).

I am wondering if these symptoms are consistent with corrupted firmware, or if I have some other issue.. with either the power supply or something internal to the device.

The device has been unused for some time, I came home one day and it was off and hasn't worked since.

I don't know if there was anything related to the power, or what happened.

I've tried multiple harddrives, and even no harddrives, but it never seems to power up, so I can't get to any boot menu or other diagnostic mode.

I am looking for an alternate power source, just to rule out the power brick not functioning correctly, but since it does get power to the ethernet port, I would think that isn't the problem.

Re: RN10200 Unable to Boot or reset or reinstall OS

My issue seems to involve some kind of hardware issue; I get no power up lights, nor does the fan turn on.

I've ordered the diagonstic cable and will see if that can help further illuminate the problem, but either way, I am not seeing a simple problem/solution.

I'll follow up once the diagnostics are complete and if there is any solution for my case.
