Re: RN316 | Won't start up | 6.7.0 Problems I assume

Hi all,

So what do I do now?

My RN316 does not come up after a reboot. Have been running 6.7 for a while, but I suspect this was the "first reboot".

Upon powering up it gets to around 28% fairly quickly, then it's just s-l-o-w after that displaying "Booting..."

At 88% it's starts alternatiing between "Fail to startup" and "Retry startup".

I cannot access ithe ReadyNAS Admin Page.

I have restarted twice now.

I work in IT, but am more familiar with Microsoft stack, not Linux, etc.

So what should I be doing and more importantly how?

(At 94% it says "dropbox.service".)

Anyway, it's gone.

Was able to upgrade to 6.7.1.

Trick was to refresh home page which them said that 6.7.1 was loaded and would be installed on next reboot.

Or perhaps the trick was that I stopped the scrub first.

In any case 6.7.1 is running, and the boot is substantially quicker than before!

Does it work if you boot the NAS into Volume Read Only mode via the Boot Menu?

Yes.

Was able to do that.

BTW: When I tried to boot normally it got stuck at 22% for ages with following message in OLED:

First Line: systemd-udev-set

Second Line: 22% ***vice

(I got that extra information by presing power button at front)

So what do I do now?

My guess would be you're running into an issue that's addressed by ReadyNASOS 6.7.1-T244 (Beta 1)

So you could try updating to that and if it still won't boot do an OS Re-install.

In volume read-only mode the data volume is read-only, not the root volume.

If you can't access the GUI you could go to https://ip.address.of.nas/fwbroker

Yes, you can wait for the production release if you want.

We hope it will be ready soon but as for an ETA providing one can lead to disappointment if it the ETA is not met.

Ummm... otherwise, can I delete the snapshots whilst in read-only mode.

In my case I have 12TB of data and 21GB of snapshots which I do not really need.

Is there something I should be configuring in read-only mode reagrding the quotas?

You could try an OS Re-install on 6.7 as that will disable quotas on the volume. However if you change share settings that will re-enable quotas on the volume (there's a fix for this in 6.7.1).

Hi all!

Now that 6.7.1 has been released what would you recommend as a course of action? I have not rebooted RN316 since I restarted it in Read-only Volume mode,

Just upgrade from 6.7.0 to 6.7.1 (I assume that is possible when in the read-only volume mode) and reboot.

Or do I need to do something special first like:

Remove snapshots (which I really do not care about).
Upgrade from 6.7.0 to 6.7.1

I am not sure why I was bitten by 6.7.0. I never created/modified any shares so not sure why quotas came into play. Unless it was snapshot related.

ALSO SHOULD I WAIT UNTIL IT'S PUBLICLY AVAILABLE. SO WHEN IT IS DETECTED BY MY RN316? IS IT OFFICIALLY RELEASED AND AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE? Or is it currently using a "soft launch" in case other problems manifest themselves?

Just interested in what's the best course of action for me to take now.

So I've downloaded and unzipped: ReadyNASOS-6.7.1-x86_64.zip

Then I went to System > Settings and clicked on the Install Firmware button and attempted to upload the ReadyNASOS-6.7.1-x86_64.img file.

Nothing happened in web portal.

Nothing happening on OLED screen.

I then noticed that the RN316 is scrubbing data. It's a 15.01% and slowly ticking over. In a couple of minutes it has progressed to 15.08%. Of course it's configured to scrub on the 1st day of the month, of course...

Would that block the upgrade?

Remember I am in Read-Only Data Volume mode, or whatever it is called.

Is there anything else I should do? Or is it simply a matter of trying again to Install firmware and upload IMG file and seeing how you go?
