ReadyNAS 6.6.0 will not recognise USB storage device when plugged in
Since updating to firmware 6.6.0, Readynas will not recognise my USB external storage device when I plug it into the fron USB port unless I reboot the ReadyNAS. Is this a bug in the new firmware. Does anyone have a solution??

Re: ReadyNAS 6.6.0 will not recognise USB storage device when plugged in
We have had some other reports of this.
Which model is this with?
Which firmware did you upgrade from?
Can you send in your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)
Which brand/model USB disks are you using?
Moved your post. You should only post in the beta section if using beta firmware.

Re: ReadyNAS 6.6.0 will not recognise USB storage device when plugged in
I have the same issue after updating firmware to version 6.6 from 6.5.1.
My usb strorage device is Buffalo's 1TB Model, HD-PNT1. I also tried connecting other several devices to the NAS. The NAS however doesn't recognize all of them.
Rebooting the system, even if the NAS recognize the storage device, I can't enable SMB for the external device. Other protocols can turn on.
Any help would be apreciated.
thank you!

Re: ReadyNAS 6.6.0 will not recognise USB storage device when plugged in
Hi Sinji,
Reports are still being investigated as they vary from case to case.
For the meantime, I would like to verify your general usage for the USB storage? Does it take part on a back-up job of the NAS? If yes, connect the USB temporarily to one of your computers within the same network of your ReadyNAS and create a new back-up job for it.
Since there is an ongoing investigation of it, it might be a good idea if you can register your device to see if it still has support from NETGEAR. Please go to my.netgear.com for the registration.
Regards,

Re: ReadyNAS 6.6.0 will not recognise USB storage device when plugged in
Hi ! Same issue as well. Upgraded from 6.5.1 to 6.6.0.
Actually, the USB external HD is not recognized when I plug it while the NAS is on. But if I turn it off, then plug the HD, then turn it on, it's OK.
I can also reboot the NAS.
So it's only a matter of "hot-plug".
Thanks !

Re: ReadyNAS 6.6.0 will not recognise USB storage device when plugged in
Can anyone give me a fix for this as having to reboot the NAS everytime you swap the USB drive is not a solution.

Re: ReadyNAS 6.6.0 will not recognise USB storage device when plugged in
I had something similar. Can you check these two things to see if it is what occurs in my situation
1) in windows when the USB Disk is plugged in and not recognised can you see it in explorer
2) when the USB Disk is plugged in and not recognised in windows explorer can you see it the share page of the NETGEAR web page as an smb share
if you can see it on the Netgear web page as SMB share but not in windows explorer then it is an issue with smb.conf in the os of the NAS

Re: ReadyNAS 6.6.0 will not recognise USB storage device when plugged in
Hi Justlogical,
Sorry! I don't know the official FW release schedule.
The FW fix has been verified internally.
We will have BETA FW soon with the fix included.

We are having the same issue on multiple client devices and are having to reboot 6 or so to get the external drive to show up. Really need the fix.

Re: ReadyNAS 6.6.0 will not recognise USB storage device when plugged in
Hi
I'm having issue with backups failing and I believe the issue reported in this thread still exists with firmware v6.6.1.
My hotplugged external USB3 drives are not recognised by the Web UI of our ReadyNAS 104.
I have the USB cable connected to the Rear Top USB port.
The last time a drive was shown as mounted was when I rebooted the ReadyNAS.
For ref, we use Western Digital MyBook Essential 3TB drives
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Essential-Drive-External/dp/B0042Z55RM
The kernel log though does show when I disconnect one drive in the morning and rotate it for another.
Feb 27 08:33:39 STUDIO_NAS kernel: usb 3-1: USB disconnect, device number 35
Feb 27 08:33:47 STUDIO_NAS kernel: usb 3-1: new SuperSpeed USB device number 36 using xhci_hcd
Feb 27 08:33:47 STUDIO_NAS kernel: usb 3-1: New USB device found, idVendor=1058, idProduct=1170
Feb 27 08:33:47 STUDIO_NAS kernel: usb 3-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=2, Product=3, SerialNumber=1
Feb 27 08:33:47 STUDIO_NAS kernel: usb 3-1: Product: My Book 1170
Feb 27 08:33:47 STUDIO_NAS kernel: usb 3-1: Manufacturer: Western Digital
Feb 27 08:33:47 STUDIO_NAS kernel: usb 3-1: SerialNumber: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Feb 27 08:33:47 STUDIO_NAS kernel: usb-storage 3-1:1.0: USB Mass Storage device detected
But the web interface->Logs always show the destination cannot be accessed when trying to run the backup.
Tue Feb 28 2017 10:09:19 | Backup: Error backup job MWF Backup Active Jobs: destination cannot be accessed. |
Checking the logs I see:
multiple backup_nnn_error.log files, each containing:
No USB storage was found at usb_port_3:3!
and also multiple backup_nnn_status files each containing the following message with the associated epoch:
BACKUP_STATUS__FAILED!!1487894742!!warn
I can send complete logs if required.
I'm not sure when this issue began, but I do remember with older versions of firmware the web UI always reported the external drives as connected/mounted.
Thanks

Re: ReadyNAS 6.6.0 will not recognise USB storage device when plugged in
Sigh.. Just had to reboot the ReadyNAS again to mount the external USB backup drive in order to perform a backup. What a PITA.
Wait.. I can't believe it... Hot Swap has just worked!. I'm gonna have to perform more tests now.....
