ReadyNAS Duo - Cannot Login - Help!

Hi Guys,

Not sure if this is the right place, but here goes...

For some reason the my ReadyNas Duo running 4.1.10 stopped letting me log in a few days ago.

I can still see all the shares and everything is working fine, but i cannot login to it.

I found this guide on how to do an OS reinstall

http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu#duo_nv_nv_x6600

I did this (turn off, hold in hidden switch, power on) amd it seemed to do something, but when i try and login it still won't let me.

I've tried admin/password and admin/netgear1 as defaults, but no luck.

Can anyone help me? Is there another default i could try?

Cheers,

Andy

  • Hi,

I've tried admin/netgear1 and the old password.. neither work.

All the shares are there and accessable, and RAIDar shows everything green. OS version 4.1.10.

I did the OS reset (Power off, hold down hidden switch at back, power on) which should have reflashed the OS, but still can't login. This is the right procedure for reinstalling the OS, right?

    Lost for ideas now.

    cheers,

    Andy.
  • The right procedure is the one in the hardware manual I linked in above.

    To perform an OS reinstall...
    1.Power off your system.
2.Using a straightened paper clip, press and hold the Reset button.
    3. Press and release the Power button to power on the system.
    4. To perform an OS reinstall, continue to hold the Reset button until all Disk LEDs flash once, after about 5 seconds, and then release the button.

If the LEDS didn't flash, then you didn't do an OS reinstall. If you held reset too long (~25 seconds) you'd see a second LED flash, and then you'd have done a factory reset (which would wipe your data).
There are other modes you can end up in if you aren't careful (particularly if the reset button isn't actually pressed in by the paper-clip), which is why I linked in the manual.

Anyway, you should be able to log in. I'd try powering down the NAS (not holding down the power button, just pressing it), and then restarting it. If you still can't log in, you can try the OS reinstall again.

Do you have a full backup? Wiping the disks and rebuilding the NAS from scratch is another approach. And of course you should have a backup anyway.
  • Hi Stephen,

OK. i see what you mean now. I thought you were just refering to the default password last time with that link.

It's late here now, so i'll try this tomorrow, but to answer your question, yes, i've got a full backup on a seperate drive :) I run sequential backups twice a week.

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Andy
  • Hi Stephen,

    It worked! :)

    I owe you a beer. Thanks. :)

I can log in using the default password, and all my data is still intact.

    cheers,

    Andy.
