I am connecting my ReadyNAS Duo v1 to my iMAC 27 for the first time and want to replace the two hard-drives. Can I replace them with SATA 3 disks? Will I have to reformat them for Mac?
I am looking at Seagate Barracuda 2TB SATA 3 hard drives
TIA
Geoff

I have almost decided that the Western Digital 2TB WD2003FZEX Black Performance Hard Drive would be a better choice.
Maybe the WD2001FFSX would be better in that performance class - it has enterprise specs.
Though I think they are both overkill for a duo v1 - it's CPU isn't fast enough to take full advantage of those drives.

Re: ReadyNAS Duo v1 will it take SATA 3 hard disks?
It will take SATA 3 drives. The disks will be reformatted by the NAS, and it is best to install them unformatted (blank). Many people have had issues using Seagate DM drives in the ReadyNAS (actually in RAID arrays generally). Seagate NV drives are better options.
Note that the duo is a network-attached storage (NAS) device, not a USB dock. You need to access it over ethernet or WiFi, not via USB. Most people connect it to their router or ethernet switch.

I have almost decided that the Western Digital 2TB WD2003FZEX Black Performance Hard Drive would be a better choice. More expensive, but quicker. My NAS is connected via ethernet and I intend to make it into a web server, maybe with a little help from the Netgear community!
