ReadyNAS NV+ "Kernel Panic"
Hello all,
Not a good morning. Came in the office, ReadyNAS offline with "Kernel Panic" on the screen.
Unable to reboot through the button, so power-cycled the ReadyNAS.
Booting message appears, but then locks with "Found bad disk". ReadyNAS unresponsive.
When I boot with Disk 1 removed - "Found bad disk", again, ReadyNAS unresponsive.
When I boot with disk 2 removed:
- Boots OK, I get my IP adress
- NO led lights lit for the disks on the front of the unit.
- Display says C: 0/0MB Free
- FrontView says I have no share.
- FrontView gives me three green LEDs for disks!
- Ch 1 : Seagate ST31000528AS [931 GB] 0 MB free
- Ch 3 : Seagate ST31000528AS [931 GB] 928 GB free
- Ch 4 : Seagate ST31000528AS [931 GB] 0 MB free
ReadyNAS "Act" light blinks once every 2-3 seconds.
I can shutdown unit with front button
When I boot with disk 4 removed:
- Boots OK, I get my IP adress
- NO led lights lit for the disks on the front of the unit.
- Display says C: 0/0MB Free
- FrontView says I have no share.

ReadyNAS "Act" light blinks once every 2-3 seconds.
I can shutdown unit with front button.
When I boot with disk 3 removed:
- Boots OK, but no IP adress
- Display says "Checking FS"
- NO led lights lit for the disks on the front of the unit.
- ReadyNAS (seems) not responsive, and Cannot connect with FrontView.
- "Act!" light blinks one every 2-3 seconds.
I have three REadyNAS NV+ and have had disk fails in the past.
It's the first time I get a kernel panic and this bizarre behavior.
Usually, a "Checking FS" will see the "Act" light blink furiously...
That's where I am at.
Any and all help is truly appreciated!

Re: ReadyNAS NV+ "Kernel Panic"
Done already.
I ended up rebuilding everything from scratch, using the same 4 disks. I did full factory reset of the NAS, and upgraded the firmware to the latest release.
Hopefully, Netgear engineers will have added better management of failures.
Am in the process of integrating disk 3 of 4 right now, 7 more hours to go.
Thanks for the reply.
