ReadyNAS RN314 will not reboot after 6.2.0 -> 6.2.1 update
I Applied 6.2.1 OS update via "Update Available" popup. At reboot, I get "Booting... Updating FW" and flashing power button from which it does not recover.
No access is possible - ie, no exported filesystems and no web or SSH access.
If I attempt an OS reinstall:
- Which version will it revert to?
- Exactly what configuration settings are not restored?
If this does not work (and there is a thread here relating to a 6.2.0 update that implies this) what further options are there?
Thanks.

Re: ReadyNAS RN314 will not reboot after 6.2.0 -> 6.2.1 upda
What firmware did you update from?
If it is still stuck doing the update you could perhaps try powering off the system then powering it on again. If this doesn't work you could try an OS re-install and if that doesn't work further suggestions could be given.
It depends how far the firmware update got. An OS re-install will use the firmware currently on the internal flash.
An OS re-install resets the admin password and some network settings and leaves most other settings intact.

Re: ReadyNAS RN314 will not reboot after 6.2.0 -> 6.2.1 upda
Next installment ...
The 314 has been in this state for over an hour now, which I think is well above the 10+ minutes cited 🙂
It has been running happily on 6.2.0 for a few weeks, so this is 6.2.0 to 6.2.1 as indicated in the Subject.
The device cannot even respond to ping, so the update may have stalled very early.
I had already tried power off/cold boot and get to the same state. I will try once more before OS reinstall (because that requires a bit of climbing through cables to get to the back of this device!)
Thanks ... will post results soon.

Over the past year and a half your OS partition has become quite defragmented. I think this is related to your use of squeezecenter. I just defragmented the OS partition.

Re: ReadyNAS RN314 will not reboot after 6.2.0 -> 6.2.1 upda
Hello,
is it possible/safe to update to 6.2.1 directly from an older version like 6.1.8?
regards starbuck

mdgm, by squeezecentre, do you mean LMS, the super-poussin addon?
If so, is this OS fragmentation issue likely to affect all users of this addon?
Presumably the volume defrag does not deal with the OS partition, or does it?

starbuck, yes.
As always, you should have backups.

Re: ReadyNAS RN314 will not reboot after 6.2.0 -> 6.2.1 upda
Well it may not be LMS. It could be something else that led to it getting so fragmented.
Volume defrag does not touch the OS partition.
The best advice would be to store only what is necessary on the OS partition. It would have been better if the squeezecenter files were stored on the data volume. Perhaps if there is a newer version of the app it would store more data on the data volume?
