ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus died after firmware update Case #18610

Hello,

I bought a ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus some weeks ago and it worked without any problems.
Until I decided to upgrade the firmware with the latest RAIDiator version RAIDiator-x86-4.2.20.
Now it seems to boot but nothing happens.

What I've seen so far:
-The network LEDs doesn't show up
-Factory Reset does not work (it seems to freeze when selecting the boot menu entry)
-OS re-installation does not work (it seems to freeze when selecting the boot menu entry)

I heard there is a possibility to reinstall the OS by USB. Is that possible with my model or do you have any idea what I can do here ?

It's a new model and doesn't work after a few times use. Now I actually don't want to send it back to the dealer for RMA,. That would be the last choice.

I hope someone can help me.

Thanks and best regards

Re: ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus died after firmware update

If within 90 days of purchase, give tech support (http://www.readynas.com/support) a call. Otherwise open an online case. Edit the thread title (i.e. subject of first post in the thread to include your case number.

Yes there is USB Boot Recovery for x86 but this is a last resort as there is a possible negative side effect that would require a NetGear tech to remotely login to fix.

See what support has to suggest.

When you get that case open, be sure to let them know what firmware you were at previously.

Exactly the same problem after update RAIDiator-x86-4.2.20 with my ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus. No function at all.

Is there any solution for that???

Re: ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus died after firmware update Case #1

Would the Ultra 2 can be start in telnet mode?
Please tell me the pervious Firmware before you update it to 4.2.20.

If the NAS can be reboot to telnet mode, please contact Netgear support engineer to create a case to handle it.

Re: ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus died after firmware update Case #1

I have a similar problem. My unit is a ready nas pro 6, I had skifta working on it and then after I upgraded from RAIDiator-x86-4.2.19 to RAIDiator 4.2.20 I was not able to use skifta. Thankfully my nas pro did not brick. So something changed on the new firmware to cause the issue. Just a thought I am no expert but it may be a file permissions issue where at one point everyone could execute/change a specific file and now that file requires root privileges. So the system hangs or does not get fully installed. Just a thought.

Re: ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus died after firmware update Case #1

after I upgraded from RAIDiator-x86-4.2.16 to RAIDiator 4.2.20, as per the update message on Frontview, I cannot now use my ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus

Netgear should be on top of this like yesterday, it is shocking that updates are not properly tested before Frontview suggests to the user that new software is available.

I have wasted hours on this, thinking I was at fault, please Netgear raise your game, don't go back to the old days of really bad support for users, we are spending good money on your products and you continue to disappoint :x

Re: ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus died after firmware update Case #1

Any update on what is going on with skifta and is the new Raidiator 4.2.21 now compatible with skifta or will it brick my system too ???
