Re: ReadyNAS Ultra 6 - Stuck on "READYNAS" prompt with or without disks

Hello Everyone,
I have an interesting situation with an out of support ReadyNAS Ultra 6. Recently we had a power outage and one of the Seagate disks went kaput.
Since then I have deleted partitions on the other 5 WD NAS disks following the suggestions from other posts and have tried the reset options using the paper clip method but no matter what I do I can't get past the "ReadyNAS" prompt on the display.
I have tried removing the disks completely and still get the same message.
Any help in this matter would be deeply appreciated. Is there another way to hard reset the unit? I have a backup of the data on cloud thankfully so I am happy to explore any means available before sending the unit to trash.

Hi Sandshark,
Unfortunately, I don't have a spare ATX. I am planning to trash the unit and move on at this stage as I need an operational NAS by next week.
Thank you and Stephen for taking the time to provide your tips on the matter.

Re: ReadyNAS Ultra 6 - Stuck on "READYNAS" prompt with or without disks
Just to clarify, I was able to reach the boot menu before removing the partitions. That's how I got to know that my Seagate drive was the culprit.
Once I removed the partitions on the 5 WD disks I got into this mess. I don't know if there is any connection to the onboard OS and the disk but I am clueless as to what is happening behind the ReadyNAS prompt.
I have left the system running last night, just to see if it was doing some re-synching behind the scenes.

Re: ReadyNAS Ultra 6 - Stuck on "READYNAS" prompt with or without disks
It's possible that the power outage also damaged the chassis (perhaps the PSU). In particular, your symptoms are consistent with a PSU that is only delivering 5 volts.
Try rebooting again with no disks. You can also check the status with RAIDar: https://kb.netgear.com/20684/ReadyNAS-Downloads

Re: ReadyNAS Ultra 6 - Stuck on "READYNAS" prompt with or without disks
Hi Stephen,
Thank you for the tip. I have tried rebooting with no disks and the NAS is stuck on the "READYNAS" prompt.
I agree with you and also based on looking at other posts in the community that this could be a PSU issue but what baffles me is after the power outage the unit went through normal boot when I removed the faulty Seagate hard drive. It was missing the volume and since I had the data backed up I removed the partitions from the other HDDs and restarted the NAS. It's then the system stopped in the "READYNAS" prompt and after that even removing the HDDs didn't help me.

Re: ReadyNAS Ultra 6 - Stuck on "READYNAS" prompt with or without disks
I agree the timing is confusing, but the symptoms definitely point to the chassis.
One simple thing you might want to try is reseat the memory.

Re: ReadyNAS Ultra 6 - Stuck on "READYNAS" prompt with or without disks
Hi Stephen,
Tried reseating the memory this morning and it hasn't changed the behaviour. Also additionally tried the 30-30-30 sec method to reset the device and the prompt is still stuck on "READYNAS".
I have left the unit running to see if something will change later in the day.
Any other suggestions are welcome Stephen...

Re: ReadyNAS Ultra 6 - Stuck on "READYNAS" prompt with or without disks
Well, it does point to the PSU (despite the timing). If you can connect up the serial port you might get a little more information (not sure).

Do you have a "spare" ATX supply (maybe one from an old computer, just not so old that it has the 20-pin ATX connector)? It's not that difficult to hook one up externally just to see if the PSU is the problem. Could save you a lot of trial-and-nothing.
