My ReadyNAS stopped receiving antivirus updates on March 20th 2018. With ssh enabled I tried running freshclam and received the following message:

Does anyone have a suggestion how to address this issue?
The nas is able to connect to the internet to download firmware and other apps.
If you try pinging database.clamav.net it is succeeding with no errors.

Two nic ports are being used in bond mode IEEE 802.3ad LACP. If I try pinging 74.115.25.14 the screen shows 56 data bytes and the curser drops down a line and nothing happens after that.

Freshclam had this happen:

If I try pinging 74.115.25.14 the screen shows 56 data bytes and the curser drops down a line and nothing happens after that.

It hangs because it isn't getting any response (unlike windows, there is no default timeout).
The puzzle is why database.clamav.net is always resolving to that address.
On my NAS, it resolves to 74.115.25.14 every now and then, but mostly resolves to other IP addresses.
What do you see when you enter host database.clamav.net?

So it's puzzling that freshclam only wants to use 74.115.25.14. The DNS server should be returning different addresses.
Did you try a reboot, and then run freshclam again?
