ReadyNas 102 slow since 6.5.0 update
We have 2 differant nas's both on 1GB network since upgrading to 6.5.0 we have noticed both has slowed the backups down from 8 hours to 36 plus software being used for both backups are BESR 2013 R2 has anyone else had this problem? copying large files to it is fine just seems to be the backup software the only thing that has changed at both locations is the firmware of the nas.
Regards
Ian

Re: ReadyNas 102 slow since 6.5.0 update
I have two RN104, one of them updated to 6.5.0. Of course antivirus is disabled in NAS.
What I noticed is that speed slows down to terrible 9-10 Mb/s when backing up my ESXi Virtual Machines and NAS is connected into my LAN, BUT it gets 35-40 Mb/s when I isolate backup traffic throught a netlan. So weird because it happens only with the backup software (in my case, Trilead but I tried with others too) and not when copying SMB or AFP files. I tried in two different environments with same results.
Network configuration is the same (not ip of course), gigabit cat6 and nobody connected but me, so this is not the problem. Everyting goes blazing fast through lan except VM backups. Into netlan, its fast. Into lan, incredibly slow.
So disappointed.

Re: ReadyNas 102 slow since 6.5.0 update
Hello Ianujc80,
Is that backup software installed to a computer? What is the OS of the computer and what protocol does it use to access the volume of the NAS? Is the NAS the destination or the source?

Re: ReadyNas 102 slow since 6.5.0 update
The backup software is System recovery 2013 R2 SP5 using SMB the OS is SBS2011 so windows 2008 R2 its is backing up to the Nas via a UNC path
Thanks

Re: ReadyNas 102 slow since 6.5.0 update
Are you seeing this slowdown anywhere else?
That version of windows should be using SMB 2.0. Perhaps the SMB plus app will let you adjust some settings to improve its speed.

Re: ReadyNas 102 slow since 6.5.0 update
If you can reset symantec to use a local path, perhaps you can try mapping the share to a drive letter on the PC.

Can you download all logs, and post the contents of "initrd.log"?

Re: ReadyNas 102 slow since 6.5.0 update
lanujc80,
Ok yes, it is as I suspected. there was a modification to BTRFS that you can only take advantage of if you backup data and factory reset. It provides a larger allocation per leaf. I'm assuming if we look at your system from ssh that the leaf size is currently 4k. The adjustment is 32k and helps support performance. This may help in your situation, I would suggest giving it a try.
You should have noticed a performance decrease once you updated to 6.4.0 as well if this modification has not been allocated, so seeing as you jumped from 6.2.5 to 6.5.0 this follows with a possible resolution here.

Re: ReadyNas 102 slow since 6.5.0 update
I have the identical problem whith 4 seperate 102's using Symantec System Recovery and also StorageCraft ShadowProtect. I've also tried a factory reset without any improvement. As far as I am aware the problem started after upgrading to 6.4.

Re: ReadyNas 102 slow since 6.5.0 update
Hi
I have an RN104 with 4 disk
After i updated to 6.5.X i got terrible system performance 😞
I can't download the logs ... timeout, sometimes i can't connect to the readygear frontend, because can't connect to readynasd ...
The disk speed sometime 160Mb/s sometime 286kb/s! (YES! 286kb/sec) ...
I tried the btrfs scrub, but readynasd crashd and btrfs defuncted ... (i canceld the scrub from terminal)
i can't connect with samba, can't connect with nfs ...
the ssh terminal sometime freez, wait disk IO ...
I removed some data from the server, but i think it's not too optimized, when i need 600GB free space for normal performance .... that is a joke

Re: ReadyNas 102 slow since 6.5.0 update
The root file system access is very low 😞
/dev/md0, ext4 mount point: /
i started a simple dd command: dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/t.dat bs=8k count=10k
after i can't start any other command 😞 system fully stopped while not killed the dd ...
