ReadyNas NVX Disk Problem

Hi,

Hoping someone can help as i'm pulling my hair out.

My 3 disk NAS reported a failed disk in slot 3, as it was less than a year old, I pulled it out and tested it on another machine (not vendor tools) and there were no smart errors and the disk was fine.

I placed it back in slot 3 and still no joy. On a whim I moved the drive to slot 4 and now the raid re-synced and everything has been fine for 3 months. Last week slot 4 started complaining of a dead disk, I once again pulled it out and tested it on a local PC. No problems and no smart errors.

I placed the drive back in slot 3 and the disk can be seen and the NAS starts a sync. Great I thought until the NAS still tells me it is unprotected. When I check on Frontview it has slot 3 as a spare disk (this is the one with the disk in) and slot 4 as a dead drive. I may not be the smarted chip off the block, but surley with no drive in the slot it should be showing as empty and not 'Channel4: ST32000542AS 1863 GB [Dead].

Any advise would be much appreciated, I understand the disk may be knackered but the NAS seems to be having a few issues too.

Cheers

Re: ReadyNas NVX Disk Problem

When you remove a disk from a slot the NAS treats it as a dead disk that needs replacing.

So you didn't test the drive using SeaTools? I would suggest you do so. If the NAS marks a disk as being dead it probably is at the very least flaky and not worth using.

Re: ReadyNas NVX Disk Problem

Many thanks for the rreply mdgm.

I tested the disk and everything was ok. Decided to do a backup and factory reset. This has cured the problem 😄 .

Cheers
