Reason to use boot menu mem/disk test on new NAS?

My new RN526X has been set up for only a day and everything appears to be working normally, including the disks. I would assume that the memory, being ECC, would throw up an error during normal operation if it were defective (it's the default 4GB configuration). And apparently I can run full disk tests from the GUI (once a year recommended?).

 

So is there any reason to enter the boot menu and run the memory/disk tests? Should I test the disks using a full disk test either through the GUI or boot menu (does it matter which?) before copying data to them? Do the tests run in endless loops? If so, how do I get out of them without harming anything?

As far as I have experienced, I only go to the boot menu when a error logs appear on the ReadyNAS.

 

No need to enter the menu if the ReadyNAS is operating without any issues.
