Recovering Disks for a Unworking ReadyNAS+ v1
I have one of the original v1 of the ReadyNAS NV+. Over the weekend the power-supply gave up its mortal coil and as a consequence I now have a brick. Netgear technical support have been great and are shipping out a new PSU for me to fit.
Alas my users are screaming for the data on its drives so I am looking to get the new NV+ v2 (diskless) delivered tomorrow. I am then hoping to transfer the disks over and boot up a fully recovered system. However, after reading the manual its says clearly that they NAS will reformat the drives! Bang goes that plan!
Does anyone know how I can 'recover' the drives, either using another NV+ or any other means?
Appreciate any comments
Steve

Re: Recovering Disks for a Unworking ReadyNAS+ v1
The RAID format is different on the v2 so you can't migrate to that.
You need to get a NV+ (v1) or older ReadyNAS and make sure the firmware is at least as up to date on your dead unit (you can install a spare disk, update the firmware, verify update is successful, power down, then migrate your disks across).
A last resort would be to follow the advice here: Mounting Sparc-based ReadyNAS Drives in x86-based Linux
Also the replacement PSU should come with printed instructions (I think, not sure), but you can find these here too: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/hardware/how_do_i_replace_the_stock_power_supply_on_the_readynas_nv

Steve for the future, you must never (EVER) have only one source for your important data. Get a couple of external USB drives for your new v2 setup and back-up the NAS data regularly. Or re-commission your v1 as a backup. Something!

Thanks for the info guys, guess I will have to wait for the psu to turn up to be on the safe side.
Then cloud backup 🙂
Cheers
