Rsync broken since 6.7.1 & 6.7.3
The 3100 only received Notification to upgrade to 6.7.1.
Since then backing up using rsync sometimes fails within a minute.
The Pro received a notification to upgrade to 6.7.3 - not 6.7.1.
Since then all rsync backups fail within a minute.
I can not backup /data locally to the USB drives because I can not provide an exclude list this way.
Any help please with rsync since 6.7.1 / 6.7.3 ?

I should clarify this ...

It actually claims 'complete' - but only the folders exist on the backaup - not the contents of those folders.
e.g.
Backing up the /data directory, the backup /data/databse exists but /database is empty on the backup, as are all other folders backed up.

Re: Rsync broken since 6.7.1 & 6.7.3
Upgrading to 6.7.4 did not change anything.
Whether using rsync and backing up NAS to NAS or NAS to USB, only the folder structure is 'backed up' - no folder contents.
Using rsync to backup a share also does not back anything up.
This has been working properly until the recent FW updates.
Please - can anybody help?

Re: Rsync broken since 6.7.1 & 6.7.3
are you getting any errors in your logs? check your backup setting to see if you have 'on completion send full backup logs'.
If you are getting out of space or write errors, you might try; system > volumes > click gear > balance

Re: Rsync broken since 6.7.1 & 6.7.3
Thanks for responding.
The settings haven't been changed - they were working for months / years OK
Log reports job completed successfully.
Email shows only data structure:
Successfully completed backup job Pro Daily Data. -------- Backup Job Information -------- Backup Job Name: Pro Daily Data Backup Job Type: Full Protocol: rsync Backup Source: [volume:data]/ Backup Destination: [remote:rsync]/192.168.1.8::USB_HDD_1 Backup Start Time: Tue May 30 2017 8:15:19 Backup Finish Time: Tue May 30 2017 8:15:19 Backup Status: Success -------- Backup Job Log -------- sending incremental file list data/ data/copies_of_usb/ data/database/ data/documents/ data/filing_cabinet/ data/financial/ data/howtos/ data/software/ sent 441 bytes received 56 bytes 994.00 bytes/sec total size is 0 speedup is 0.00
and looking at the backup only shows empty folders.
Each day is a full backup onto an empty drive.

Re: Rsync broken since 6.7.1 & 6.7.3
Can you send me your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)?
The last firmware we updated rsync was 6.4.1, I think.

Re: Rsync broken since 6.7.1 & 6.7.3
Support has let me know there's been another report of this issue and that they've reproduced it.

Re: Rsync broken since 6.7.1 & 6.7.3
Thanks mdgm,
I thought I was going out of my mind 🙂
It was working fine after 6.4.1. - broke after the recent updates.
Logs sent.
Did they indicate a 'fix' time given backing up is critical?

Re: Rsync broken since 6.7.1 & 6.7.3
I saw this too. I back up a 314 to an Ultra 4. After 6.7.1, rsync stopped working on a backup job that had always worked just fine. Exact same log types.
I'm waiting for my 314 (a new one, after this error borked my old one) to finish a data scrub before trying the backup job again.

Re: Rsync broken since 6.7.1 & 6.7.3
Still seeing this in 6.7.4 on both boxes (source 314, destination Ultra 4). Backup instantly "succeeds" with no data copied.

I suffered Rsync backup problems and decided to manually do a OS Install back to OS 6.7.1, Rsync is running normally again for me now

Re: Rsync broken since 6.7.1 & 6.7.3
Neither
First download OS 6.7.1 then using The Admin page go to System/Settings and use Manual Install Firmware

Re: Rsync broken since 6.7.1 & 6.7.3
I have no idea (although Netgear warn not to go back) but it worked flawlessly for me and I urgently needed a solution, particularly as 6.7.2 and then 6.7.4 broke Rsync.
Your NAS will of course advise there is an update to 6.7.4, which I am going to ignore and when 6.7.5 emerges I will hold of that too for a few weeks

No.
https://community.netgear.com/t5/ReadyNAS-Firmware-Release-Notes/ReadyNAS-OS-6-7-4-now-available/m-p...:
Devices updated with 6.7.4 firmware should not be downgraded to earlier firmware versions
Though it seems to have worked out for @bedlam1.

Re: Rsync broken since 6.7.1 & 6.7.3
Support reproduced the issue only about a week ago.
The issue has to be verified again, the root cause identified, a fix prepared and QA tested.
Firmware updates tend to have multiple changes. So it can take some time before we have a sufficient quantity of fixes and other improvements to justify a firmware release.

Re: Rsync broken since 6.7.1 & 6.7.3
I would appreciate that answer if this wasent about backups. Because it's about backups one of the most important parts of owning computer systems if you have a fix you should push the update ASAP not when there's a bundle of fixes
anything pertaining to backups should be a problem of the maximum urgency and shouldn't be broken in the first place
any other bug is acceptable apart from things that impede data access or security of said data
in my opinion
thanks for the update tho mdgm

Re: Rsync broken since 6.7.1 & 6.7.3
I must agree with this.
Please could we have an rsync specific fix rather than a bundle of other changes (unless, of course, they are required for rsync)?
Could support instruct a non-destructive way of downgradinfg to 6.7.1 or the one before?
