Source cannot be mounted on the system
Hello, I cannot backup data from my Windows 8 computer through the peer-to-peer network to the RaedyNas 102. I get the following error message: "... Source cannot be mounted on the system". When I setup the backup job the connection works when testing in the the "Source" screen of the backup job definition. Thanks for help!

Re: Source cannot be mounted on the system
Is the source folder shared with Windows File Sharing?
What do you mean by peer-to-peer network? I don't think your network meets the normal definition for that.

Re: Source cannot be mounted on the system
Has the source folder to be shared? I provided the username and the password in the backup job definition. If the folder is shared other users can see the data, correct? I don't want others to see the data.
Regarding the network: Its just some Windows computers connected through a router and switches. No server.

Re: Source cannot be mounted on the system
(a) your network is not peer-to-peer, and the RN102 is a server.
(b) Frontview backup cannot access the files on a the windows machine unless the folder is shared. What you can do is run a different backup utility on the PC with a NAS share as the destination. That can be a robocopy cmd script, or a backup program. In a pinch you can use drag-and-drop, but I don't recommend it for normal use.

Re: Source cannot be mounted on the system
Hi Stephen B,
I'm on ReadyNAS 102 with firmware 6.2.4.
I'm trying to backup from a linux machine to the ReadyNAS.
When I configure the back up and test the connection, ReadyNAS says connection succeeded. But when I run the backup I get a 'source cannot be mounted' error.
Can you help?
Jp

Re: Source cannot be mounted on the system
What backup options are you using (esp. the protocol)?

Re: Source cannot be mounted on the system
I'm using nfs.
I don't know how to upload an image, If I knew I could send a screenshot.
Here is the log entry for the error.

Re: Source cannot be mounted on the system
Are you including 192.168.1.11 in the path? You shouldn't be.

Re: Source cannot be mounted on the system
That was only an attempt to put the IP in the path. It does not work otherwise too.
Netgear support looked into it with Teamviewer and couldn't do much.
I lost patience and did not follow it through.
I'm bringing in a guy who teaches networking at a local college to figure it out.
Will come back to you, hopefully with a solution.
Thanks.

Re: Source cannot be mounted on the system
I just ran into this error. Couldn't figure out why my backups hadn't happened on schedule; turns out the router changed the IP for my source computer, so had to change the IP in the "Backup"->"Jobs"->"Settings"->"Source" menu to match the computer. My status went from "Fail" to "In Progress".
Hope that helps someone.
